At comparing pictures of DUPA with mine, I feel I might have it. At 23, I developed two spots on my beard about 6 months ago. I noticed additional spots throughout my beard and now in the sides and back of my head. The hair seems to be thin or gone from the spots. However, the dermatologist never mentioned DUPA. She said the alopecia on my face is already growing back and gave me one injection. She prescribed me cream for some areas of my beard and my hair.

What are your guys thoughts? Could this be a lazy diagnosis or is the signs of growing hair enough to rule out DUPA?

Google pictures of DUPA (diffuse unpatterned alopecia, for those unfamiliar), from what I know of it it is not like areata in the sense that it is not known to spontaneously resolve itself...now if you have a diffuse type of hair loss as well as those spots then it is possible you have a combintion of hairloss types, however, as a male if your hair line is still intact and you are losing it in a diffuse pattern you could have telogen effluvium (if that is the case then figuring out the trigger could resolve it) or you could have diffuse alopecia areata coinciding with alopeica areata or yes it could possibly be DUPA (I think of DUPA as being more similiar to patterned hairloss in the sense that it is progessive, but it is usually much faster acting and more severe)...I'm not sure if that helps you at all?....if it makes you feel better I have no clue what type of alopecia I have either, all I know is I believe I have some sort of immune dysfunction (I do have celiac disease) but my hair loss hasn't responded to any diet changes I've made, however since changing my diet and controlling the celiac I have less depression/anxiety and a better outlook on it :)
