One day while living in the DC area, I was shopping at a mall. Two little boys kept starring at me. They would look at me and whisper. They had to be only about 7 or 8-years old. Then their mother called them to leave the store. As they walked away I heard them exclaiming with excitement, "Mama you don't have to wear a wig! You don't have to wear a wig!" I laughed so hard! It brought me such joy that I could be an inspiration to two little boys who wanted their mother to be liberated.

So, what was one of your funniest moments? Laughter is medicine for the soul...and the bald head as well.

Yes, Sis. Jacqui, I now laugh about this situation. I'm thinking of my little grand daughter, who is only 18 months when she first seen me after having my head shaved. I held her...she looked at me in wonder, then look at her mother, who is my daughter, then looked back at me as if she was asking her mom something. Then she hit me on my head. It was so funny to see her taking a double look. Yes, I can now say that I find it funny, while laughing at my head, and when it begins to have the little hairy noob trying to come in, I shave it off.
Little kids have a way of bringing it home for you.
I was walking in a parking lot of a grocery store where I live and a lady driving by stopped me and ask me if I was buddhist. LOL funniest thing ever to me, I should of said yes I am a buddhist Monk. Wow I guess a bald white woman looks different to some people. LOL I still get a giggle out of that one. I just want to say in my Jeff Foxworthy voice, "Heres your sign". LOL
LOL!
We have to have fun in the midst of it all! Then we take victory over the baldness and it doesn't have victory over us.
So many funny bald stories, but my fave that I tell all the time is one from when I was still wearing wigs. I had a design client that I really enjoyed working with and she had been a professional model for years. One day she came into my other store and I just happened to be there working on a project with another designer that was a good friend of mine and knew that I wore wigs.
My client came in and we talking about various projects and getting together on a more social level, when she says to me,"Bethany, your hair is always so pretty." I smile and say,"Thanks" and start to change the subject. She continues, "Its always so shiny and perfect...just like doll's hair." And before I know it she is stroking my hair and says, "And it feels just like doll's hair, huh?" At this point my friend is about to lose it and is trying so hard not to laugh. She's kicking me under the table trying to get herself under to control, as I say, "Yeah! Just like doll's hair!" and get up and walk away.
A couple of nights later I went out for drinks with that client and we're chatting away and she says again how jealous she is about how perfect my hair always looks. I finally say "Oh Darlene, you're gonna laugh hard at this one...my hair feels like doll's hair because it is!" "I wear a wig and you too can have this perfect head of hair for just $150 bucks on namebrandwigs.com Her name is Brandi."
She was floored and a bit embarrassed, but was one of my best clients for years.
Yup, it does feel just doll's hair!
LOL

I couldn't stop giggling after reading this one! Everyone tells me my hair feels like a dolls wigs, if only they knew!

I was working my first job at the pool and I rarely wore wigs since I was constantly getting in and out of the water (I also learned sunscreen is my bald head's BEST friend in the summer that year!) One evening I was getting ready to close up and two little girls came up to me and asked "Excuse me, but are you a girl or a boy?" At first I was a little offended, but then burst out laughing. Their mother came up apologizing and started to scold them, and I explained to them that I am in fact a girl, and asking a question like that could be offending, and shared tips with them to go about asking something like that again. It was a little disheartening at the time, but it's the best story to tell at parties!
Tiffany, I share your sentiment. If we laugh, especially at ourselves, it makes our life journey so much easier and fun!
Great words of wisdom to live by!

I like your story. Was that at the time when your photo at the pool was taken? It's really funny. Because with your bald head you look as feminine as one can. A living proof that hair has nothing to with gender identity.
