I waited months for a doctor to come back from a special seminar to learn about new alopecia treatments, I think it was Dr. Donovan. When I saw him after he returned, he had nothing new in the way of treatments. He actually dug through a pile of old (drug) treatment options, none of which seemed very safe (as they needed close monitoring with many bloodtests).
I myself have found that taking a lot of extra iron supplements has seemed to work.
Hi Amanda,
You can definitely just show up as the products show is set to go between 12pm-2pm. The support groups are meeting previous to this. Check out the CANAAF website for even further information if you are interested for sure. Hopefully we'll have the chance to meet!
I'm definitely looking forward to the event.
Cheers,
Jenn
Hi All,
For those alopecia patients who live in the Toronto area and who see Dr. Jeff Donovan or hope to see him, I have just learned that he is closing his practice at Sunnybrook effective December 17th. He will be exploring ways in which he can see alopecia patients but told me it may take 6- 9 months to get something set up. I hope he is able to do so, as it is not good for us to lose the services of a dedicated hair loss specialist.

Hi All, I know I'm like a broken record here, but I have great news. the Skin Matters conference with 4 alopecia sessions starting on the 12th in Toronto has received some generous funding and is now able to drop the registration fee from $150/$200 per person to FREE until the money runs out - so its limited. Please seriously look at it and consider coming. We are all dealing with the same stuff. I think it will help if we get together and connect and learn about the new research that is underway from one of the top alopecia docs in the country. www.canadianskin.ca/conference2012 check it out. please consider coming.. CANAAF will be there and I will be trying to start up a scarring alopecia group as well. if you live outside the GTA , the conference hotel still has rooms, but they are releasing the block this week.
