Hey there! I've recently moved to Edmonton for the next while and was wondering if there's a group here, or anyone for that matter with alopecia?
Hope everyone is enjoying the Fall weather.
I will be heading out to Toronto for Freedom Wig Consultations and appointments on October 12-14th. If you are interested please message or contact me and we can set-up an appointment.
Warm Wishes,
Jenn
Alopecia conference in Toronto this October 12 and 13. The Skin Matters conference in October in Toronto has a conference within a conference specifically for AA ( CANAAF - sponsored) and for cicatricial alopecia patients and their family members as well as sessions on staring, sexuality, updates on recent research, alternative medicine approaches. I'm going because I want to learn and be with others who are dealing with this. see www.canadianskin.ca/conference2012 for the programme and a youtube video. Also its pretty reasonable and covers most meals, but there is financial aid if you need it.
Also heading to Fredricton, New Brunswick July 21st and 22nd. If you or someone you know are interested in an appointment please pass on the info.
Cheers,
Jenn

Brandy, you could use CANAAF's email to contact them privately. I am sure they could give you some good referrals.
I have my eyebrows tatt'ed. I needed up going to a nail/day salon. They advertised "permanent makeup" When I was getting my nails done, I noticed the ladies working there all had tatt'ed eyebrows and I asked if they got them there. Indeed they did. I have had my for 3 yrs now and they are looking like they are starting to need a touch up. So dont be afraid to check out some of these salons. Just make sure you check out their work and make sure its something you like. The woman that did my spend 3 hours on me. and about 3/4 of that times was spent drawing and redrawing and redrawing. She was using a ruler just to make sure they spaced properly. Ask for a colour a shade darker than you want them to end up for they do fade a touch after they have healed. Healing last a day or 2. So you could get them done on a Friday afternoon and be ready to rock it out by Monday. Like any other tatt you want to keep it moisturized while it heals. Unscented and mild lotion. I used vaseline (thinly).
Just checked out the CANAAF website. Seems to give general info. Even under the research tab it says:
Please visit our website to find links to up to date treatment sites for alopecia areata.
Yet there are no such links to be found.
Their "Saturday Success Sessions" for the GTA are held twice a year and the "Coffee and Conversation-GTA Support" meets the last Monday of every other month.
I don't want to post on their facebook page as the only people who know about my condition is my family and treating physician and I would like to keep it that way. It's not something I advertise.
Lol. There are good people here in Vancouver too. ; )
Have you checked with CANAAF?
San Francisco? That's completely on the other side of the continent and another country. It would take over 2 days and 4,200km to get there! Have you seen the price of gas up here?
