I tried a search, and got nothing. Will try again, and let everyone know.
Hi Terri, Canaaf's facebook page I've discovered has now changed to a private group page to which you can ask to be apart. You can search them on Facebook and hopefully they will come up.
I don't know about on AW, but CANAAF is Toronto-based. Check out there website.
Is there a GTA group here?
unfortunately it seems that CANAAF might have taken down there fb page. For I have "like"d their page earlier and now i cant reach it. Maybe its just technically issues.
@JenniferKrahn Cannot get that FB link to work, and cannot find CANAAF on FB via search. Hmmm . .. .
Hi all,
Here is a link to CANAAF's (Canadian Alopecia Areata Foundation) Facebook page. This page is sharing some great stories of success and the CANAAf group seems to want to share more stories here. Check it out and join. http://www.facebook.com/index.php?lh=f0c30a2e691baed46e8ed098f3c5787c#!/groups/138725316179572/
Hi Everyone! I have been working with Silkhead and Tanya - and many others - here in Vancouver, to grow the local alopecian community. Feeling I should go back and change that verb. ; )
One of the things that strikes me is that there may be many regions or cities that want to echo what CANAAF has set upon in Toronto. Is this the right forum for us to discuss our local intentions, our commonalities, and then to approach CANAAF collectively to build upon what they are doing, to affiliate?
Tanya has listed some of the critical elements in terms of local first steps. I am wondering what the critical elements might be, in coming together, and in not reinventing the wheel in each of our locations. Very excited about the possibilities, in working together!
Hi everyone! Sorry if I didn't reply to you! I wasn't following this discussion (but now I am :))
@Jennifer Are you kidding!! We want you to come and join us!! We are a great group of people too. Please come out tonight (Feb 2nd) if you are available! I will send you the details :)
(Our group is here: http://www.alopeciaworld.com/group/vancouveralopeciasupportgroup)
We'll be skyping with the Calgary group because we happen to host the meetup on the same night!
@Jennifer Krahn Oh that's fantastic! How many members do you have so far? We have been brainstorming on ways to get more members too, because at the heart of the support group - to be a true well-rounded support resource - we want to reach out to as many people with alopecia as possible. Many of us have felt alone and in the dark at some point, esp. in the beginning...no one should have to feel that they are alone in this!
Some ideas for gaining members in Winnipeg:
- get listed on CANAAF and NAAF
- get dermatologists, wig shops, and hair salons to tell their alopecia patients about the group (the first three places people visit at onset :))
- set up group on Facebook, Twitter, and Alopecia World
- post to forums and craigslist
- get on local press and media
- visit schools to raise awareness
cheers!
Tanya
