I was diagnosed with FFA a year ago. I’ve lost a lot of scalp hair since then mostly one side plus all my leg and arm hair. My eyebrows were really sparse so I started using minoxidil and the regrowth has been amazing. They’ve completely filled in. I’ve been taking finasteride for 3 months and am hoping to see results from that.

It’s a very traumatic disease but I keep reminding myself that it’s not cancer so I need to stop feeling sorry for myself and buy a great wig when the time comes.

I have had FFA since 2013....@52yo....rt before xmas I noticed thinning eyebrow on one side....then red bumps on rt sided scalp and a very noticeable hair loss...within 3 weeks I received my diagnosis of ffa and lichen planus on legs, arms, and eyebrows.  Unfortunately....mine on my scalp was aggressive and fast....being in the medical profession I did succumb to trying steriod injections...but stopped after realizing this wasn’t the solution...other alternative was plaquinal.....but decided my eyesight was more important.  Now 2018....eyebrows have microblading....best decision....takes a few more application due to my disease doesn’t take the ink as well....permanent tattoo eyeliner,......same problem...lack of eyelashes is treated with Latisse(prescription).I’m now at the point where my hair lose is sides, half on top and thinning.....time to shave and wear a wig permanently... my pts realize now I don’t have cancer....and share my disease with them....it could be worse.....my only frustration is that in this country (us) the medical insurance company should offer some coverage for prosthetics.  Is it easy...no.....but I remind myself as I work with cancer patients it could be worse

Hi, thanks for info, I have resisted drug treatment up till now, can you tell me dosage of medications you are taking?  I am worried about side effects?..you sound so positive..please keep posting,

I’m trying really hard to be positive which isn’t always easy as I watch the hair disappearing. I think if I get to the point where I can’t hide the hair loss anymore, it may be more difficult to be positive. Anyway I take 2.5mg/day of finasteride, clobesatol lotion once per day Monday-Friday, minoxidil every day on my brows and scalp and I take biotin daily as well. I’ve only noticed a difference in my eyebrows. My hair continues to fall out on the right side. The left side is stable for now.
