I joined Alopecia World because I was desperate to find information on FFA and the only thing I received was scam for, ahem, enlargement of private parts, and couldn't find anything on FFA so I gave up.  My twin sister, who does not have this, told me about a trial, in the US only, available for hair loss.  So here I am, again, and so happy to have found this topic which is exactly what I am dealing with!

I am 64 next Sunday, have always been complimented and continue to be complimented on my "beautiful hair".  It still has lots of strawberry blond but have lost two fingers width in front, more on one side than the other, which I understand is typical.  I still have eyebrows but they went white ages ago so it looks like I don't have any anyway and add color when I go out.

I tried rogaine too and have a topical cream meant to minimize scarring.  I use it hardly at all because honestly I don't have anything visible to put it on.  If my head itches or I find a bump I will put it on that.  I am not keen to use stuff, and you probably figure, why not, what's it going to do, kill you?  Well anyway, that's just my decision and my reasoning doesn't really matter.

I continue with every wash to lose hair which is now at the tipping point because I'm sure some of you notice that happens to you as well, that it feels thinner after every single wash!  I was using a shampoo from Capillia which is wonderful but it did not promote new growth but made it grow really fast.  It is a nice shampoo from a Canadian company in Montreal, all natural apparently.  But to me it seemed to just make it fall faster because it was growing, not new hair, just faster.

Anyway, with my son getting married next June, I wondered where people found good hair pieces, reliable and decent quality.  If you saw me you would not think my hair was missing, yet, but luckily I started off with enough hair for three heads.  I should mention this started in 2006, I wrote my sister telling her "I'm going bald!" and it was not bad at all then.  Even the derm in 2008 said I wasn't losing my hair.  Two years and a biopsy later proved oh yes you are!

Hi Liroma!

Where are you located?  I'm in Los Angeles and have the best wig/piece maker ever!  She suffers from Alopecia herself and made a complete career change to start her hair business. If you want more information, please let me know!

Kathy

Thanks Kathy, that sounds perfect to have someone who has the issue themselves!  Lucky you.  I am in Ontario, Canada.

Fortunately I haven't needed any assistance yet.  Mine seems to be progressing very slowly - altho my eyebrows are about 60% gone.  Good luck and congrats on your son's wedding :)

Thanks Kathy and also for your response!   Mine is slow too but it is getting critical, to my eye anyway!

Hello Liroma

I have been very happy with a Wiglet/Topper.   I purchased this lightweight piece that clips on a few months ago and I love how simple it is to slap on using the attached clips and with a wide toothed comb, you sort of comb it to both cover but combine with your own hair. The lady who runs the shop and has done so for many years, cut and styled to my own style.Since I have bangs, she cut some into it as well. Love it.

It states on the box 'EasiPartHd (Heat Defiant clip in crown Volumizer) made in Indonesia. You might just call around to a few wig shops and see if they carry this or some similar topper. I'm in Ontario as well.
