Hi,

Has anyone used methotrexate for FFA? My dermatologist is suggesting it as nothing else seems to work.

If so, how effective was it? Did the re-growth last? Were there horrendous side effects?

I was on Celcept for 18 months or so - Doc didn't feel as if it was doing much ... I wasn't losing a ton of hair - however the red dots at the base of my follicles along the front/top hairline were still there... he switched me to methotrexate and I've been on that for 3 months.  I went for a follow up visit yesterday and he took me off of it - feeling like it wasn't doing much, either.  Methotrexate is a pretty strong drug - I was not allowed to drink while on it (I don't drink much, anyway), and you will need to get labs done quite often to ensure things are well.  I know these choices are not easy... as we want so badly to save our hair.  What were you on prior to your derm recommending this?  Have you lost much hair?
