Hi All,

I was diagnosed this summer after noticing the hair over my ears had disappeared (around March).  I am devastated.  I feel guilty because I am upset about it. It’s not like I am dying or anything.  I am on doxycycline and finestride (sp?), I have had 3 separate appointments for injections, I use Rogaine daily and a lotion that smell like alcohol every 3 days.  I am going to start PRP in January.  I don’t think anything is helping at this point.   I have a few questions:

1.  I now have bumps around my cheek and forehead. Is this an allergic reaction?  Has anyone experienced this?

2.  Has anyone had any luck with stem cell therapy.  I want to try it. I could at least get liposuction out of the deal.  Lol

TIA,

danielle

It’s hard to say what your bumps are on your cheeks and forehead. It’s possible that it’s part of the FFA transformation that not only affects your hair/scalp but also your skin. On this forum we unaffectionately call it “chicken skin” or “basketball skin.” The teeny hairs on your face die off too leaving tiny scars behind-and if this happens to enough of them it changes your smooth skin to bumpy.

FFA is a sadly maddening and frustrating disease. Every doctor has a different approach ( even if they know what it is). Different treatments work differently on everyone and some ladies do everything and others as little as possible (I fall into that category).

if you a search thru the forum you’ll probably find info about stem cell therapy. I haven’t tried it. Good luck to you and welcome to this forum. There are very nice ladies here with big shoulders to cry on.

I've had two dermatologists tell me that prp won't help ffa. One of them was providing them to two of her patients at their insistence. Given the cost, I decided to take a wait and see stance - six months later I checked with the derm who told me that it did nothing for them.

I have bumps on my forehead and on my temples; the dermatologist that’s said they are due to FFA.  I am taking 20mg of Accutane, along with tacrolimus, clobetasol, and rogaine.  I have had incredible results.
