Aw....Norm. What a sweet story. Too bad about the kiss, though. ( ;-)

Well, here's a tale of love, despair, panic and alopecia, with a side order of embarrassment... what more could you want? :)
A few years ago, I met a girl on an internet dating site. After the usual emails and phone chats, we met up and had a proper face-to-face date. All went well, except she was a bit withdrawn, but I put that down to nerves. Well, you'd be nervous too if you had to meet me, right? :)
Anyway, Date No. 2 was arranged, we met, and it went better... she seemed a bit more relaxed. Sitting outside her place in the car at the end of the evening, it seemed the right time to maybe try for that first kiss (are you on the edge of your seats yet, waiting expectantly with bated breath? You should be...)
I turned slightly towards her, reached out and put my hand to the back of her neck, to try and stroke her hair.... to which she reacted by pulling away quite violently. "Ooer", thinks me, "misjudged that one.... better try and salvage the situation... quick, make light of it!"
So, in my best jokey-banter voice, I said, "Hey, don't tell me.... that's really a wig, and you're bald underneath." To which she said, "Yes..." Cue movie-style disbelieving stare as time stops and a strange siren-type noise sounds in the head....

After I'd managed to extract my foot from my mouth, it turned out she'd been AU for a few years and had been beating herself up over how to tell me.... hence the nervousness. So after that, and me telling her that it didn't bother me one bit, we had a good laugh about it .... then a coupla days later, she dropped me an email to say she didn't think we were compatible.

Hey ho, so it goes. How would you bald gals have reacted? Be interested to know.... it was still funny, tho'. ;)

Oh, and no.... I never did get that kiss!!!

When I was about six, I was on the swing in the school playground and fell backwards off the swing. Friction with the ground pulled my wig off. The teacher on playground duty almost fainted---he turned white and shaky and had to be helped to a seat by another teacher. He thought I had scalped myself!

Tanya, thanks so much for starting this Group! You're really lifting a lot of our spirits. That's what sharing this Alopecia journey on AW is all about.

Two personal stories:

I'm in a Starbucks with friends, wearing a headscarf, skirt and long sleeves, and also wearing a charm around my neck that is the Hebrew word for life (I'm Jewish). The girl behind the counter happens to be Jewish, and she takes one look at me (in the scarf, skirt and long sleeves and with the necklace) and smiles brightly and says "Oh, are you Orthodox?". I was surprised, and answered "No, I'm bald." One of my friends dropped her coffee it was so funny. Maybe you had to be there....

The other one is the time a bald (male pattern baldness/shaved) guy on an airplane asked me how I get my head so shiny. I kept a straight face and said "Well, there's this really fine grade of sandpaper...." I had him going for a moment.

Nice posts, I really liked Tallgirl's story as well as Cheryl's cartoon clip! I know you mentioned these funny stories don't have to be alopecia stories but here is the latest funny thing that happened to me thanks to by shiny head. I was at my friend's house and her two year old son (who has seen me bald a million times) placed his hands on my head and says "uh-oh". He got quite the reaction and I fear this poor child is going to be the class clown when he gets older but he then goes to his father and tried to rip his hair off, then to his mother and so on. Ok, it was funnier in person but you gotta love that this innocent little fellow was under the impression that everyone is bald and just throws on their little Lego hair pieces before getting out of bed everyday. :)

I was about 19 or 20 and me and my boyfriend were just coming back from vacationing in Vancouver, Canada. We had to pull over to the side of the freeway to check something on the car. While I was standing there a semi-truck went by and there went my wig flying down the highway. I yelled at my boyfriend to run after it and he did. He brought me my wig back and I quickly put it back on my head and got in the car.
