I just picked up this bad boy from Sephora. $48 for the kit.

No, it's not the highest quality, but is perfect for a newbie like me who is just starting out. I know less than zero about applying makeup properly, but I'm having fun experimenting. Next I'm going to get a nice set of brushes, probably from Coastal Scents.

How do you do yours?
Do you match to your outfit?
Are you only a lip gloss and mascara kind of girl?
Are you a "OMG I can't leave the house without makeup EVER" kind of girl?
Has anyone found a tried and true method to keep mascara from flaking?

Yes, I'm full of questions and I'm nosey. ;)

Soooo ... anyone else here with drawers full of stuff?

Hey Lily, how's it going?

I have a sample cheek tint and eyeshadow from Tarte. So far I like them and a couple of full-sized ones on my list. I seem to itch from pretty much everything, and so far the Tarte product is working well for me.

Yeah, I hear you on the mascara thing. Almost as soon as I began experimenting with different brands, I started experiencing lots of falling lashes. I didn't think that was supposed to happen with scarring alopecia. But, I still have almost all on my right eye, although they are really short. And half on my left eye. I've been just been adding a little to the outer corners hoping to get my eyes to stand out a little more behind my glasses. I'm pretty sure that as soon as I find the perfect brand and application method to prevent the flakes, I won't need it anymore. ;)

Are your fake lashes human hair or synthetic? I'm having a personal issue with human hair [I know, I'm strange! :)] I just feel weird thinking I'm wearing someone else's hair. However, I have been wanting to give some fake lashes a try.

I saw your post regarding the Clarisonic. I got mine about 2 weeks ago and I LOVE it. I had been on the fence about it, but it popped up on QVC on easy-pay so I took the chance. My skin feels great. I use it with Purity from Philosophy.

Uh-oh lunch is over, have to run. TTYL
I am a MAC fanatic!! I need to go ahead and start posting my pictures on my AW page, because I am ALWAYS experimenting -- and MAC is not as expensive as you would think!

I love color and experimenting with different looks; in fact, if you haven't checked out my Facebook page inbox me with your email address or your FB profile link and I will send you an invite, since that is the only way you can see my pictures. My profile picture is a good example; I used MAC Pigments and L'Oreal HIP cream eyeliner to complete that look!
Well Heeelllllooooo Ms. Fanatic!

I only have one MAC product and that is a Studio Fix foundation! I like it because it gives me pretty good coverage without making my skin feel tight. I go over to their site every once in a while and window shop. But, it is just too rich for my blood right now. I need to get my skill up before going upscale.

Facebook link on the way. :)
Lily,

If you think that your hair isn't going through a fall out cycle i really recommend using a growth lash product like neuLash or Latisse. About 2 yrs ago I used Revitalash when I was in a remission period (as in nothing was growing or falling) and my lashes grew back in I was sooo happy because it had been around 5 years or so without them. But if im in a falling out cycle it doesn't help, well at least for me. My sister uses neuLash (its over the counter and good for sensitive eyes) and she has had amazing results, the product last about 5 months I think. She use to have short thin-ish light lashes, now they are darker thicker and longer (Im soooo jelly).

With mascara I liked Armani Maestro Mascara due to its great volume features.
& Also Guerlain makes a cool Mascara called "Le 2 de Guerlain"
It is a two sided wand, fatter brush on one end and a smaller/skinnier brush on the other to get the outter smaller lashes.

Also I use synthetic lashes by Shu Uemura.. my first love! Hope this helps.
I have to go on record saying this now, and please, don't anybody get offended by this when I say it:

LATISSE IS NOT APPROVED BY THE FDA OR ANY PRACTICING DERMATOLOGIST FOR ANYONE WITH ALOPECIA OF ANY KIND!!!

Because Latisse is specifically made for people with normal immune systems and not people with alopecia, it is strongly not recommended for us. An ethical dermatologist who has done their proper research will not prescribe it to you, and I don't recommend asking for it. The drug is specifically designed for people who have naturally thin eyelashes and healthy immune systems. Not only that, but one of the side effects of Latisse (should anyone be stubborn enough to get it) is that it may permanently change your eye color and make your eyes brown! I love my green eyes too much to risk changing their color (aside from colored contact lenses) over something that I know is not going to work on my lashes.

If you want to try a really good mascara, MAC has their Studio Fix mascara and their Opulash mascaras that I adore!! I have thin eyelashes myself (which have surprisingly stayed in even throughout the loss of my eyebrows) and these mascaras make me look as is I have TONS of dark, thick lashes, and it lasts forever too! Try that and any one of MAC's lashes and tell me what you think!
I concur. We were talking about this in the office the other day about how ridiculous the side effects are.

My Sephore Friends & Family haul arrives tomorrow and it has a set of lashes in it. If I"m feeling brave, I'll post a pic of my first try.
every product has side effects (like all of the products we use to treat our scalps most of them aren't for alopecia)
or the pills we take for it (i don't even want to read the list of the side effect of immune suppressants), or the shots we do.
medication IN general can have severe side effects.
latisse isn't going to turn your iris green to brown
yeah you can get brown spotting if you abuse it, like using it 5 times a day instead of once, or pouring it in your eye ball

i have very light green eyes & severe aa used revitalash (same warnings for side effects as latisse) for 2 years and all i got was eye lashes from it, not brown eyes.
my sister has mild aa, has green eyes and she uses neulash she has beautiful lashes now.

you can't even use a face lotion without thinking about the side effects, it could cause your skin to break out and then you can get acne scarring.

the lash serums might work for people on this site who are willing to try,
i mean gee, some people put poison ivy on their scalps or do 300 steroid shots in a one sitting and well sometimes it works and sometime it doesnt
I put Latisse in the same category as women taking Propecia -- not a good idea. Neither one of those drugs were developed for the treatment of AA or any of its forms. It is made specifically for people who have no problems whatsoever with growing eyelashes. Revitalash and Neulash do not have the same ingredients in them that Latisse does; therefore, I don't put them in the same category. Latisse carries that warning with regular, proper use -- and I have learned over the years that if the side effects are worse than the benefits, I'm not using it. Any alteration of my natural color from a drug is not a side effect I'm willing to risk, so I'm not using it.

And one other thing I've noticed: I've not had any lashes since I was 17 years old. I'm 32 now, and honestly, since mine have finally grown back I realized that nobody noticed that I didn't have any lashes, just like they don't really notice I don't have any brows until they look up close -- they're too busy trying to figure out who does my makeup and if my eyes REALLY are that color....LOL

Hi Juwanda,

I just missed out on a Bare Minerals freebie from Sephora. :( They were giving away a sample primer, foundation, and brush. I already have the #5 and #8 from the starter kit, but I wanted to try the new matte foundation to see how it is different.

I'm going to check out mineralmadness. I'm always on the look out for a better foundation.
Hi Ladies ! I'm becoming addicted to makeup also . : ) I think it's because of the hair loss & trying to feel girly again . well, that and I'm a teen . I wear my eyeliner on the waterline or whatever you want to call it . Do you know of a good long lasting liner ? Also , has anyone tried urban decay ? I'm interested in their palettes but I'm not sure If I want to spend that much .
