i have only braved it the past 2-3 summers, and only after i have some color on my dome. i am still to scared to go out too much without the hats, becuz in the non-summer months i loose alot of color and my scalp is very patchy so my hair folicles are VERY noticable. i wish to one day be hat free, but not anytime soon i don't think.
Like some of the other guys, a hat outside in the cold or sun, no headcover indoors except for a doo rag in the gym or a headcover in my own home during the winter (the house is typically below 60F). Basically, I use headcovers for physical comfort rather than to conceal my bald head.
I wear hats relatively often. Clothing is complemented by something on top, if there is no hair than a hat helps fill the void. Like you said Buddy, we alopecians risk burns without hats. At clubs I often go in with a hat and take it off because I get hot.
The only time I wear a hat is in the dead of winter. I mean the cold where everyone else has hats and scarfs wrapped around their heads and hoods up. then it's time to break out the hat.
Summertime? Keep it smart and use sunscreen if going out for any length of time, but usually let myself get a little sun and color. Not much though.
I wore hats a lot as a kid, and wigs as a teen. Mostly I guess because that is what I thought I was supposed to do. Graduated to bandannas for a while, and then nothing but what I was given.
