Children Who Are 8 & Under Don't Always Have Reoccurences

Hello My Dear Friends & Fellow Parents Of Children With A.A.! When my daughter was 8 - she slowly lost 1/4 her scalp hair atop her hair (we treated her with topical ointments & her hair grew back in four months) Back then - everything I read indicated that if your child gets A.A. before age 8 - they will have problems with A.A. for the rest of their lives! I was in anguish & tears & felt awful - Then a few years later, my 8 year-old son got spotty A.A. :o( After age 10 - both kids treated for a few years with injections (it was the kids' wish to treat with injections). Then - my son's A.A. went away & he has been A.A. free for over two years! My daughter stopped the injections four months ago & is treating with a topical ointment & her spots are staying small, and she now wears her hair short & a little long on the top & is able to naturally conceal her A.A. & be completely in style! I also have a friend from this forum - her son got A.A. at around age 8 and has been free of A.A. for at least four years. My daughter is now 15 & will not even let me look at her head - she says this is her thing & she will deal with it. My son is 14 & has a very thick head of hair. I hope this email gives some of you parents hope. This is a very unpredictable disease & just because your child gets it at any age - it does not mean it will be a continued problem throughout their lives. Send you all best wishes & many hugs!!!

This is very encourgaing. My little girl was diagnosed at 16 months. Her hair begin to fall out in Febuary and starting growing back in April. The only treatment I used was the topical steroid and rogaine. She currently has a head full of thick girly hair. I am very prayerful and hopeful that God is in total control over this condition, and will allow my little one's hair to continue to thrive. Thanks for the encouragment.

I forgot to mention that my daughter went completely bald within that short timeframe. Her doctor told me that due to her age and the amount of hair she lost, I shouldn't expect her hair to ever grow back. After much prayer...he was proven wrong!! :)

Hi Keri's Mommy! That is awesome that she got all of her hair back :o) It is so hard for parent's of young ones - when their child is first diagnosed. Thank you for sharing and for giving others hope! The most important thing for all of us to remember is that the disease is very-much unpredictable! Best Wishes!

My daughter was diagnosed wit AA at the age of 11 months. She has been completely bald since than. She's 3.5 years old now. We haven't tried any treatment yet, since they scared us with all the side effects.

You story is encouraging and makes me think about going back to the doctor again.
These topical ointment you used, are they available without subscription?
