I was just curious if anyone is planning on attending the alopeciapalooza conference in August. It is a children's alopecia project conference for children August 7-9th in Philadelphia.

HI MY NAME IS ANGELA AND MY SON IS JOSE HE HAS ALOPECIA AND I WANT TO TAKE HIM TO THE ALOPECIAPALOOZA BUT I DONT THINK I CAN AFFORD IT I WANT TO TRY TO DO A FUND RAISER AT SCHOOL TO RAISE THE MONEY FOR THE TRIP IT WILL BE A SPECIAL EVENT FOR THE KIDS LET ME KNOW WHATS ON YOUR MIND
I would like to attend with my daughter Lyndsey, but I fear money is going to be a factor. I think it would be a great experience for her but with only one of us working the funds just aren't there. Everyone will have to let us know how it goes.
we are still thinking about it but I haven't heard hotel pricing etc yet. I'm near Boston so most likely no airfare needed which helps financially. I also would love to add a few days to sightsee as well. Are we supposed to be signed up already? I've only seen info on volunteering but not for participants.
I think we will be going. We live near Pittsburgh so it shouldnt be hard for us to drive there and back.
We will be there. We've been talking it up to our son, and just tonight he mentioned that he was looking forward to meeting his "alopecia friends". :)
Does anybody know what sort of activities they have at the conference or what it costs? I am interested in this, but we live in Michigan and I want to find out more before we make the drive.
I believe the conference is $125 per person with the child who has alopecia being free. I think kids 4 and under are also free though I'm not positive about the age cutoff. There is also a cost for the hotel and probably for food. I do not know what activities are included although when I talked to Betsy she said that a bit of sightseeing will be thrown in. The official brochure may be availible around th end of the month/beginning of February if I remember that part correctly. I asked about younger kids attending. There will be some sibling activities that I can pick and choose from for my youngest or she is free to hang out with me.
We are planning to go. For us we can drive so we don't have the airfare issue. But I'm sure it will be a great experience for the kids. In the past, we have gone to the NAAF conference and that weekend has been our vacation. But last year it was just too expensive -- and early (my kids still had school). I am looking forward to this confernce because it is all about the kids -- and I think any workshops will be much more helpful and productive than I have personally found at the NAAF conference.
We are planning to go..I know that CAP has sent out the speaker info and itnerary if you have not gotten it or considering going..
I realize I am way late responding but the program and information has been sent out and it's not too late to register for anyone still interested. I'm not sure about the help for the costs but it can't hurt to email the CAP site and find out. There are activities for each age group as well as a family night. I hope to see some of you there! My daughter is 9 and has had aa since she was 4. :)
