Good Morning All,

We have a 10 year old boy who was diagnosed last summer. He has kept pretty quiet about his hair loss, but has started to open up recently.. Naturally, the biggest challenge for him has been school where kids who are not in his circle of friends make fun of him.

Now he says he is ready for a pen pal who also has alopecia areata. I f anyone has a 10 year old in the same situation, we would love to here from you.

Thanks,
Jim and Holly T

I have a 9 year old boy in third grade who is going through his second round of losing his hair. I haven't talked to him about this yet, because I'm not home, but I'll chat with him about it tonight and see if he's interested. Just wanted to let you know you were heard and not alone:)
William is interested. Let me know how you want to work this:)
Awesome....
We will talk to Cade tonight after we get home from work and I'll get back to you tomorrow. Are you in the Atlanta area
Just spoke to Cade and he is interested as well. I'm not real sure how to work this either.. If you would like to talk on the phone let me know and I'll email you my number and we can talk first. :)

Holly
Sorry, I didn't realize I wasn't getting email updates on this!!!

Talk is fine, or we can do emails. Whatever:))

Hi, Jim and Holly...we are in Nashville, not too far away and I'll ask Nina, who's 10 about this.
She really doesn't want to talk much at all about it, very headstrong, and although she's got SOME hair left, it's getting really hard to cover, comb-over, braid...anything.
We had steroid shots 2 weeks ago, and are trying Nioxin...i think she's in denial and is hopeful it'll grow back, God bless her. I just want her to know ALL the facts, and get as much info as I have, and know she's not alone...it seems you can talk about it and research and Google it to death and still feel absolutely helpless. I used to pray for her hair to grow, now I pray for God to please give her strength and courage. She has more than I do and can teach me I know.
Love t keep in touch!
lisa :)
Oh, and no, not anywhere near Atlanta. We're in Nebraska.

Hey! I have a 10 year old boy and we are in the Atlanta area. He was diagnosed 4-5 years ago. It started as a coin size spot on the back of his head. Then he started getting other spots on the side and top. Eventually the sides and top came back but the back has never come back. Now he also has a bad spot on his left side which is getting worse. I know he would LOVE to talk to another child his age if you are still interested.

Hi Shelly,
Cade has expressed interest but is just not ready at this time to talk to anyone. He goes through phases of ups and downs, and i just don't want to push him. If i can encourage him to reach out to your son, i def will!! I think the support would be good for him:)) School has been very hard for him this year since this just happened in August. I will tell him there is someone to talk to that knows what he's going through and hopefully he will open his heart to reach out. Right now he's just angry:((
Thanks so much for your response:)
Holly
