She is doing well. We haven't had any regrowth, but she is happy and is doing well in school. I'm so hopeful for the future and am going to try the probiotics.

I too am hesitant about giving my daughter any further vaccinations. She had rapid hair loss after her one year vaccinations. I have no idea if this contributed to her hair loss as there were many changes going on in her life at that time....namely food introductions.  My research has made me most skeptical of the MMR, which she will need again prior to starting school. There seems to be a connection with other autoimmune disorders and MMR.  I just feel like Alopecia is like an on off switch.  Something turns it on and then you work hard at trying to shut it back off. Our daughter's hair did return eventually. We adopted a dairy free gluten free diet and started her on multivitamins. So who knows what "turned it off".  I am a physician assistant. I am in full support of immunizations but at this time I do not plan to give our daughter the MMR at age 5.

My daughter also had rapid hair loss after her 1 year vaccinations.  She was a preemie, so we were slow to vaccinate.  Luckily we live in a state ( right now ) that we have declined further vaccinations with our Drs support.

My son's started at 18 mos. By the time he was 3 yrs old, he lost all, including eyebrows and eyelashes. His pediatrician advised NOT to give further vaccinations because his immune system is compromised and he hasn't had any since. I am comfortable with this decision because it works for us. He is now 7 and has not had any regrowth. As stated by Stephanie below, anything could be trigger...one or a combination of factors. I also suspect my son's is related to gut issues and have not been successful in sticking with a gluten free diet, but we have made many other changes that has helped (e.g., supplements, alternative therapies). Not to vaccinate is a personal decision that parents should weigh against other factors. I happen to have a medical professional who suggested this is the way for us to go and I trust him. My son's eczema has cleared up among other symptoms...just waiting for the hair to come back. As he gets older, he chooses better meals and it's not such a struggle. Hopefully his switch will turn off and his immune system will calm down.

Don't have any more shots until you test her more to make sure she doesn't have more autoimmune issues going on. Her system is already stressed and there has to be an underlying cause or causes- our bodies don't just have something happen for no reason. Your dermatologist is a least pointing to one possible trigger and why not bet on that if all else fails. There's so much we don't know about vaccinations because we can't hold anyone responsible for the known possible devestating side effects- by law those companies can't be sued! Why do you think that is? Because the governments requires shots- we are attending private Montessori but even if we couldn't go there- our son can't take those shots because of his autoimmune disorder and egg allergy- thank God!!! Unfortunately he had most of his already and was so sick all summer last year as a result.
