Hi,
I've been looking around for groups to meet up with who are going through AA and can't seem to find any. I would love to start one, something casual and in a relaxing atmosphere.
A little about me:
I'm on my second argument with Alopecia. I don't want to call it a battle, mainly because that word leads to fear, and I can't make any room for fear with this disease. The first time I lost my hair I was pregnant with my now 14 month old daughter. It took 5 months for my hair to fall out. So I was bald and 8 months pregnant. Not to mention a big ball of hormones.
After many injections in my scalp, my hair eventually grew back and grew for a solid 11 months. I was thrilled!! I had a mullet but I didn't care, I had my hair! Well, right at the 12 month mark I noticed a spot. I knew exactly what that spot meant, and I was heartbroken.
This second time around my hair fell out much quicker, within 2 weeks. I wouldn't be honest if I didn't say it's not hard the second time around. I've had my mornings, wiping aways tears from red and swollen eyes, that I questioned, "why?". I don't have any answers, and I know there are none out there, right now. But in the meantime, I would like to get a group of people who are going through the same hardship to share their experience. Perhaps to have a few laughs as well.
If anyone is interested, please reply and let me know. I can coordinate a place and time for us to finally meet in person.
Warmly,
Serina

www.naaf.org has a support contact in Seattle.
Perhaps contact this person and see if a regular support sessions are set up.
Best wishes,
Jeff
Hi Jeff,
They are quarterly and I gave Serina the email address for the group leader, June Secreto.
I have attended at least one a year.
How about you?
Shari
Thank you Jeff. I actually check out the website and saw the conference on June 25-28th and I'm seriously considering going to it. I appreciate the advice!
Hi Rachel,
Thank you for your interest in meeting joining me to give/accept support. Personally, I would prefer a place that serves wine :) However, it can be a coffee place as well! There's a nice little spot in Kirkland called Brix and they serve both! I'm going to let the others know that this is an option. I'm thinking Thursday, April 16th at 7:00. Would that work for you?
It will be so nice to finally meet someone going through a similar experience!
Best,
Serina
Just as an FYI,
There is a super group in Vancouver BC that meets regularly in different peoples homes.
I know it's a bit of travel but something to consider.
Join the AW group here if you are interested.
Jeff
I agree Jeff! I have been to two of their meetings last year! Great Bunch!
Shari
Count Lea from Seattle and myself in for wanting to meet up. Thank you for sharing your story and how it has gone for you. I understand about re-growth and losing it faster the second time. I almost think I had a harder time with the second time around because I was tricked (and elated) that I regrew a complete head of hair! My friend and I will follow your posts to see if you set something up!
Shari
Hi Shari,
I hope you and Lea are able to make it to Brix on April 16th at 7:00 p.m.!
Best,
Serina
Hi Serina,
Thank you for the invite. We definitely are considering it. Although Lea is very busy with work and school so I am not sure about her schedule. I work that day also but could get there by 7:00. Factors for me will be weather (driving conditions). I look forward to meeting you and others that may come.
Lea and I had organized another get together this year (we did one last year). The invite went out to all of the people in the Seattle support group. So far, there will be at least 10 of us there (perhaps even some of our friends from Canada again!)
We hope you will consider that meet up also. Saturday April 4th, 3pm at the Ivars Salmon House on Lake Union. Parking is free to patrons accross the street.
Shari
Hi Serina,
Thanks, I will try to make and let you know closer to the date. Maybe if are free can go to Ivars get together too?
Thank you!
