Hi,
I've been looking around for groups to meet up with who are going through AA and can't seem to find any. I would love to start one, something casual and in a relaxing atmosphere.
A little about me:
I'm on my second argument with Alopecia. I don't want to call it a battle, mainly because that word leads to fear, and I can't make any room for fear with this disease. The first time I lost my hair I was pregnant with my now 14 month old daughter. It took 5 months for my hair to fall out. So I was bald and 8 months pregnant. Not to mention a big ball of hormones.
After many injections in my scalp, my hair eventually grew back and grew for a solid 11 months. I was thrilled!! I had a mullet but I didn't care, I had my hair! Well, right at the 12 month mark I noticed a spot. I knew exactly what that spot meant, and I was heartbroken.
This second time around my hair fell out much quicker, within 2 weeks. I wouldn't be honest if I didn't say it's not hard the second time around. I've had my mornings, wiping aways tears from red and swollen eyes, that I questioned, "why?". I don't have any answers, and I know there are none out there, right now. But in the meantime, I would like to get a group of people who are going through the same hardship to share their experience. Perhaps to have a few laughs as well.
If anyone is interested, please reply and let me know. I can coordinate a place and time for us to finally meet in person.
Warmly,
Serina

I would love to join a meet-up group, no matter where. My situation is a little different however.. my daughter is 4 and on her second run with hairloss. I would love to meet you ladies and get advice on how to talk to her about this when shes older.. does that make sense? :) It would be so wonderful for her to meet other people also. We've seen pictures, even a girl on So You Think You Can Dance last year, which Daphne thought was the coolest thing in the world, but it would be so great to meet people so she can see that she's not so different after all.
Let me know if there is a set date for anything!
Take care,
Amanda & Daphne
Hi Amanda,
I think it would be great if you and your daughter can come meet us, we are going to meet at Brix in Kirkland on Thursday April 16th at 7:00 p.m. That might be a bit late for your little one, but either way, it would be nice to meet you! I've often thought of how I would talk to my daughter if she ever went through hair loss, so going through it personally I have some insight that might be helpful. Regardless of what challenges our children may face in the future, this could be a good platform to show them support and knowing the "right thing to say" when they need it most.
There was also a young girl on America's Got Talent that had Alopecia and her bravery to be on that stage was beautiful. You might be able to find it on You Tube and show your daughter that no matter what happens in our lives, we are in control of how we live the one life we have to the fullest extent!
Let me know if you're able to make it on April 16th :)
Best,
Serina
I might be able to - Daphs birthday is on the 15th so not sure what our birthday plans are for her yet. We were considering taking a trip to the coast but if we're still in town then I will definitely be up for meeting you ladies :)
Thanks!
Amanda
Hi Rachel,
I will be there! I think there are a few other people that might show up as well. I'm looking forward to it too!
