Hello Vancouverites! Connecting is one of the best ways to feel happier and become more informed! Come as you are, whether you are shy or outgoing. This is a genuine and fun group where all of us - new to alopecia or experienced, hair-wearer or au natural, seeking treatment or not - all come together and be supportive, informative, and positive for one another. After 4+ years of running this group, I can say for sure that you'll feel better after a meetup! :)
Come to our monthly meetups, or, start by joining this group and be in the loop of upcoming meetups! Sometimes I include alopecia news / remedy / stories too.
If your kid / teen has alopecia, please contact us and we'll put you in touch with other parents! It'll be, I believe, quite awesome for your child :)
Location: Vancouver
Members: 90
Latest Activity: Jan 12, 2020
This group gets together monthly at one of the members' homes - a cozy, positive, and fun environment, for those with alopecia. We are here to support one another, and every meetup has been amazingly mood-lifting.
Join us here and we'll send next meeting details to you in a group email!
You can always get a hold of us via AW messaging or at alopecia.vancouver[at]gmail.com
We are affiliated with CANAAF (Canadian Alopecia Areata Foundation).
Next meet up: We meet about once a month. Please email Tanya at the emil address above!

My daughter is with me from Tuesday nights through Saturday afternoons, and because she is young - and we are often busy in the evenings, but finding a babysitter is also hard - these are not nights during which I can easily be free. But I also do not want to restrict the group to my individual schedule. If we could have our next meeting on a Monday night - or Saturday or Sunday, for that matter - I would attend, and could share some of what I have been doing, in supporting Tanya's efforts to build organizational relationships with CANAAF, NAAF local chapter, and other groups throughout Canada.
What about a Saturday or Sunday afternoon appetizer party?
March 12th itself, is the only weeknight I would be free that week.
Happy Monday!
Tanya and I have been chatting about me hosting our March get together in my home in North Vancouver, so I'd like some feedback on potential dates that will work for most people. Ideally, we'd like to meet after the March 8th NAAF meeting, but we also need to work around Spring Break when some people might be away on vacation.
Would you please let me know 2 things: 1) Does the week of March 12th work for you? 2) If so, are there are any specific dates that week that are show stoppers for you?
Many thanks....Connie :)
Dear all, does anyone know Dr. Jiwani? She is a naturopathic physician in Vancouver who has had alopecia areata. I don't know if she still has it or is in remission.
I came across her website when I googled "vancouver alopecia". Her site is the first link on first page (And ours is the 2nd link, yay!)

As Cat pointed out we should do something more than introducing ourselves each time, what do you guys think of bringing Dr. Jiwani to our meetup? I haven't contacted her yet. Let me know your thoughts!
Thanks Chris :) It's mainly just corresponding the emails that take some time. I really appreciate all the members making the atmosphere of the group so great, and all those who have hosted / offered to host the meetups! As tiny apartment dwellers (such as me) can no longer host the meetups :)
I want to make sure I'm not indispensable to this group, haha! I've seen groups of all kinds fall apart because one person does everything, and when that person gets busy or moves away, the group collapses. So don't worry I won't overdo it - I'll dispatch some tasks to all of ya ;)
Thank you Tanya, for being so amazing in organizing all of us - its practically a full time job now!
Just added an article on Alopecia Research, sent in by JLo. It's in the Discussion Forum. Feel free to add more research findings there.
Also noticed that only 4 Discussion forums are shown at a time, so to see all topics, remember to use the "View All" link beside the "Add a Discussion" link!
Sounds good Nikks79 :)
Dear all, I just received from Enzina the date for the next Vancouver NAAF meetup, which is March 8. I posted the details above.
Also, browse the discussion forums above if you haven't! There are some excellent tips :)

Hi Tanya, Elenore and the Vancouver Group!
Thanks guys. Not sure if I will be able to make it, as I have a final exam on the 23rd and Clinical Exam on the 24th. If it is in the evening on the 24th, I should be able to make it. Just let me know when, and if I can make it, I'll come! If not, I'll hopefully be able to make the next support group meeting. Looking forward to meeting you all some time soon! Cheers.
Welcome Nikks79! :)
Yes we just had our meetup on Feb 2nd, so the next one will be around early March. You are more than welcome to come! I'll keep you posted about the March meetup date!
Feb 23, 24 there will be just a couple of us meeting at Elenore's. Elenore is getting her vacuum wig fitted by Sandra (she is a Freedom hair rep) and I mainly want to meet Sandra because she runs the Calgary support group and is visiting only for a few days!
Of course you can join us. Tanya is the one that usually books our events. There is a rep coming from Calgary, Sandra Fournier, with Freedom Wigs and I am just offering for those with AT or AU to see what vacuum wigs are all about. The date is somewhere around the 23 or 24 of this month. Will post it when I know for sure. We don't know yet when our next event will be. Stay posted!
