Hi-I've had my FW for a little over a year and I'm losing too much hair. My IA says I'm probably brushing too much or touching (sweeping) it to often. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I don't think I do any of these things too much, but I must be doing something wrong!!! I also find that it's not as shinny/healthy looking as it use to be. I don't blow dry it - I shampoo & condition about every other week (could this be it) and let it air dry - should I be washing it every week????? I clean the inside EVERY single night. I only have one (although just got my cap for the 2nd one) I've worn it at least 355 days for 10-14hrs a day. Any ideas? Please don't get me wrong I still love it and it is beautiful hair, but why am I losing so much hair. As soon as I get my 2nd one this one has to go in for repair (add hair). EXPENSIVE!!!!! I guess it's more like an investment, I hate when ppl call it a wig. Isn't that stupid - I guess a wig that is this expensive should go by another name. LOL!!! Any ideas or comments will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Pat, my last freedom I had I had for 4 years, I'm onto my 3rd one now. I too have to save and save to get a Freedom hair. Its so funny because I hate calling it a wig too, I'm not sure why I'm just getting used to calling it that now after 8 years of alopecia. I think you are doing great, just maybe try different shampoo and conditioners till you find one that works well for your hair, maybe buy small little bottles first? and use a wide tooth comb like recommended from some of the other ladies. I use a little bit of argan oil run through my hair with my fingers. You're right it totally is an investment!
Good luck, Norelle

Hi Pat,

You may want to make sure you are not applying full strength shampoo or conditioner to the vacuum piece, when you are cleaning. This has been known to soften the hair and can cause hair to fall out. Also, be sure to rinse the hair very well after shampooing. I have found that the part line is the most venerable area.

Hi Carmen

Thanks for your input. In the new Freedom Cap hair does not fall out of them. You can break it off (often totally unintentionally), that is called 'mechanical breakage' and does often occur because of constant handling and touching...like Norelle has indicated 4 years is not unusual lifespan for a Freedom wig, but that all depends on your lifestyle and how you look after them.

One of the things we don't recommend is leaving conditioner on for hours and applying heat or covering with plastic bags etc. Normal conditioning is sufficient with a Freedom Wig. Remember the hair is totally unprocessed so will behave like growing hair. It is healthy and beautiful.
