My 10 year old daughter has Alopecia universalis and got a freedom wig starting in January. Usually over the summer she goes to camps that involve swimming every day. Does anyone have experience with swimming in a freedom wig? Will I regret having her swim in it every day? The alternative seems to be wearing a hip hat with hair all day or trying to find a way to pack her freedom wig in her backpack (which sounds like a terrible idea). Any suggestions?

Hi

As you know your daughter can swim in her wig. To swim in it everyday will have an effect on it's longevity. Just like with growing hair if you are swimming in chlorine, or the sea constantly your growing hair can become dry and brittle unless looked after very well, even then fading will occur with people's hair. The same can be said for your daughter's freedom hair. It is 100% unprocessed virgin human hair so it will react like people's growing hair...same durability and fragility.

This is a choice you need to think about. My daughter swims in her older freedom hair during the summer months and that has been very helpful for us, enabling us to save her newer wig for everyday normal wear. If this is the only Freedom hair your daughter has (at 10 I would think it is), then I think I would consider a hip hat to stop undue wear and tear. It really depends on you and your daughters needs.

Hope this helps.

Thanks so much Rosy! It is her first wig. Unfortunately I think she may already be outgrowing it (only 3 months in). So if she can still squeeze into it, we might have her wear it this summer because we're getting her measured for a new one. It's so much nicer for her not to have to wear a hat all day.

Hi

I'm not sure how close you are to your Independent Agent, but I would also recommend you pop in and see her. I think it would be worthwhile to make sure that your daughter is putting her hairpiece on in the correct position and to see if growth is causing any issues with fit.

Hope you both have a great summer!

Rosy

Thanks Rosy,
She's coming 4/21 from out if town. My daughter's head circumference has gone from 20.5 inches to 21 inches since the beginning of last summer and we started the wig process last summer. We're trying to figure out what to do for temporizing measures now.
