I have been living with alopecia since 1991. Throughout the years, I have had alopecia areata and alopecia totalis. My life is not over, so there is still time for alopecia universalis. ;-) I have had many ups and down and find that I always come out on the other side standing tall.
It has always been a given for me to reach out to others with alopecia. I just did it naturally. I became involved in our local support group in Montreal, participated in the annual conferences of the National Alopecia Areata Foundation (NAAF), and also served as president of the Quebec Alopecia Areata Foundation (QAAF).
Someone once asked me what I planned to do after I moved to the USA. My initial thought was to attend or start a support group in Michigan, but I eventually settled on the wonderful idea of creating Alopecia World with my husband, rj jones, who was my fiancé at the time (2008).
On a personal note, I like to blend femininity and strength. A woman can be strong and physically capable as well as soft and feminine. For a long time, I thought I "had" to be one or the other, and I had a hard time finding my place. Blending both is very gratifying, indeed.
I also like to keep active. It does not have to be extreme. It can be a bike ride, walking, painting a room in the house, or cleaning the garage.
In April 2008, I married rj, a very special man that supports me in my alopecia and is the catalyst and the great mind behind the research and design of this site.
Please feel free to "friend" rj and me: We would love to make your acquaintance.
Hi Cheryl,
All I can say is WOW and Thank You!!!! You two are so awesome. I'm so happy to be a part of this group. Thank RJ for me. This site is going to be HUGE!!!!!
I wanted to send my thanks along to you and RJ, as well. This site, and the others that you upkeep, are a blessing to those of us touched by alopecia! It's so good to spend time with people who understand what it's all really about...beyond skin deep.
Thanks for a lovely group I´m gonna spread the word with my other alopecian friends here in Sweden! Really happy for the "new" alopecians who now have the support that I looked for 15 years ago... Feels wonderfull to see that your not alone... :)
HI girl, Just about to put supper on the table. We have had about 14 inches of snow thus far. We can hardly wait for spring to come. I love the humming birds and the beautiful flowers that I will have on my deck. We hope you are doing well! We miss you bunches!! This site is awesome. Talk to you again soon! Dee
I think what you are doing here is great. I had looked at your site when your finace brought out the subject of Jerry Siendfeld. I think you two are so cute togather and wish you both the best of luck. You two will have to let us know when you get married and post your pictures.
hey C i had a question about the confrence it says it starts on the 19th does it start early or is it all just checking in the first day i need to book my flight but i dont know when i should get there?
Yeah, I'm talking about Melissa from Louisiana. I was lucky enough to meet her on the alopecia group on myspace. =) She's awesome! Will you be going to conference this year?
Thats really cool that you've been to that many. I'm really excited since this is my first one. I've heard nothing but good things about it, and I really can't wait. It'll be so fun to meet people like me. I've only met 1 woman in person who has alopecia & only heard of a couple others I don't know personally in my area.
I really am excited about this site, its awesome! I'm so happy to be a member, it's the coolest site ever. =)
Thank you for the add and creating such a wonderful website. I always wished to talk to others with alopecia, but I never had the pleasure of meeting anyone. Now there is a site where I can communicate with many people like me. Thank you again and good luck with you engagement.
I actually did not know there was a conference. Alopecia has always been apart of my life, but I feel like I am learning so much from this site about events that are out there for people with Alopecia. I might not be able to go this year, because it is my freshman year in college and i have already missed a lot of days because I recently lost my great-grandmother. She actually is the one who helped me embrace having alopecia and that I was beautiful with of without hair. Could you tell me a little bit about the conference and when it is usually held and where?
No, I really don't speak French very well, but Babelfish is my best friend!!! I speak Spanish fluently and understand more Portuguese than I speak. I think, though, that I might need to learn French, considering there are so many alopecians on this site that are Canadian and living in Quebec. I'm always looking to learn something new, so I'll have fun doing it!
Hi Cheryl! I'm so happy today because I just got a wall comment for Porcia who said she found this site from my myspace page!!! Yay! I also sent out a bulletin today as well. Let me know if you saw it:)
Cheryl - your sotes rock the Alopecian community like no other! How've you been? I got your email about the Montreal group - I'm certain they are ALL going to miss you :) My new MSN is nathanpaulprince@live.ca - add me and we'll chat! Big hugs from British Columbia (I'm amazed I'm still here - it feels like forever since I've been gone from back east!!)
Cheryl. You rock! This website is awesome. God is working through you. Can you feel it? I wish I had this when I was first diagnosed and going insane in the fall of 2005.
All is well. School is crazy. 1 month to go and I'm done year II. It's going by so fast !
Take care!!!
Hi Cheryl!!! I know I kinda tapered off for the last day or so, but now it's the weekend so I hope I will have time to get back into blogging and commenting! What happened to the clouds on the main page??? Those absolutely ROCKED!!! I shaved my head again last night; I posted the picture today!!! Let me know what you think!!!
So inquiring minds want to know: with all this blogging and getting the website up and running and the AlopeciaAndLove.com blog going, when is the wedding going to be??? You're going to be a beautiful bride!!!
I just want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for creating this website. I have spent many months with feelings of despair and I have met so many wonderful, strong, beautiful people on here that have made me realize that my life is so far from over. I have truly been enlightened. I NEEDED this.
Yes he will be 19 on the 26th of this month. We are going to go up to see him at college for Easter and his Birthday. It is hard being so far away from him. Also my husband left today to go help his son paint his house in York Pa., his son is getting it ready to sell the house. This is the 1st time I am by myself since I had my son. I forgot what it is like. I lived alone 5 years before I married.
hi Cheryl! thanks for the welcome...i'm really excited to be here. and it's always nice to meet a fellow Canuck! ;-) i live in Ottawa, so i'm not too far from you.
and i just want to say that you are absolutely gorgeous!
we wil have a national meeting in France, next may. One day it could be nice if I can attend the national US meeting. will you go to the next Us meeting ?
Hi Cheryl,
You have the greatest website ever! Yesterdayevening I read your article "Lost something gained something" It set me to tears. it really touches me how you write about your experiences. and especially your relationship with RJ. I truly hope and pray I will find a man like RJ. I hope in the future I can share the pain and tears with a partner. You know how much it hurts and I'm happy for you that you have somebody close to you. Thanks for making this wonderfull site and I will visit it regularly. Unfortunately I'm from the Netherlands and there is some time-problem but I noticed that all the people are very friendly here. bye now, ingmar
I can't answer to that question right now, I will let you know after the meeting ! less than 100 for sure. I have 182 alopecians registered on my website and most of them are from France. (http://mon.alopecie.free.fr
Hey you! I was told that the Canadians had something to do with this awesome site! The first response I made was to the teacher question! You must have read my mind....see you at the conference?

time to send messages to all your friends, telling them how much you care about them.
Without friends
you would be missing out on a lot.
A friend should be radical;
They should love you when you're unlovable,
Hug you when you're unhuggable,
And bear you when you're unbearable.
A friend should be fanatical;
They should cheer when the whole world boos,
Dance when you get good news,
And cry when you cry.
But most of all, a friend should be mathematical,
They should multiply the joy, Divide the sorrow,
Subtract the past, And add to tomorrow,
Calculate the need deep within your heart,
And always be bigger than the sum of all their parts.
I care about you.
Have a nice day, and
I'm glad we are friends!!! Delete Comment
