About Me:
Hi. I'm Kelly. I have had AU since I was 4 years old. As much as I'm grateful for how AU has shaped who I am, I am not just the AU at all - I am a well rounded, confident, outgoing and intelligent woman. I have been through many trials and come out better each time.

On the lighter side, I have a caring and wonderful husband. We also have a fur baby named Maddie. I value quality people and so enjoy the company of a small circle of friends.

Hi Kelly, we just started the group a couple of weeks ago, so you are just in time! I look forward to getting to know you better. Take care, Cheryl

Hi Kelly, I loved reading about you!! We hope you had a great day today!

HI its me again! I have alopecia universalis since age 2. It was really tough growing up. Kids and adults teased me alot. I wore synetic hair pieces which they could tell just by looking. My life is much easier today, I wear full scalp prothesis. They are made out of real hair! This and a supportive and loving husband has changed my life! I am the happiest I've ever been!

Hi Kelly and welcome to the site. Read your profile and I love your attitude. Maybe you could pass some of it along.

I hope you are made to feel as welcome as I was when I joined just a couple of weeks ago.

Accepting the hairlessness isn't very difficult for me. It is what it is, and I can't change it. Accepting who I am as a result of it is hard, though. I'm still digging myself out of some deep-seated self-esteem issues that developed when I was younger.

Ironically, if who I am was immutable, if it was impossible to change or improve, my brain and its way of thinking would be much easier to accept.

Anyways, welcome to the site! :)

Nice to meet you, Kelly. Do you know of any ALopecia support grougs here in the Phx area? Thanks for the welcome. Your dog is soooo cute! What a sweetie. Take care. Sarah

Hi Kelly. I was thinking of starting a support group here in our area, and I would like to know if you are interested in joining? I know another lady here in Carefree who is new to ALopecia, and she feels very alone. I think that a support group would be great for her, and others like us as well. Do you have any suggestions as to how to get things started?? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Sarah
  • Char

Thanks! I was really bored that day when I made that pic :)
  • sgomez

    Kelly,
Thanks so much for your support. I will look on the NAAF website for ideas. But I was thinking about doing a pot luck for the first meeting. I am going to look into renting a small conference room at a hotel. It's private, and we don't have to worry about clean-up. So what part of phx do you live in? I live in Mesa. I was thinking about meeting every other month, probably on a Friday or Saturday. Let me know what your schedule is like for next month. Also, can you maybe get some pictures, and think about something special to share w/ the goup? ex. something inspiring, favorite quote, favorite wig, a tip on styling, etc.... Thank you so much! I'll be in touch. Sarah

    Great! Stupendous!

Man, I've been posting a lot! lol! I just wanted to let you know that I finally took some baldy pics of myself and posted them on my page! Yay! Just FYI. So how are things w/ school? You must be getting ready for finals about now I bet. Good luck w/ everything. I will be starting school in June, and I'm sooo nervous. I haven't been to school on over 10 years. But at the same time I'm excited, and I feel that it's the right time in my life to persue my career.
    See you soon! Sarah

I hope this worked. I tried to leave you a comment last night, and it didn't post. I just wanted to say hi. I bet you're pretty busy studying for finals right now. I left a note on our Arizona group page. So what do you think about getting together at Starbuck's? Let me know. I left the details on the AZ group page.

    Hey Kelly,
Haven't heard from you in a few... Are you going to join us next month?
  • Yvonne~Yhoney

Great, this is going to be a good meeting for all of us... Hang in there Girl, I know school can get very stressful...just remember the payoff for it! :)
  • sgomez

The first two are good, but the rest are still distorted. They are really stretched out. hmmm.........I really don't know what to tell you, I really don't know much about computers. I'm just learning my way around this site. I didn't realize before that you had to approve the messages before they were posted. (sorry)

Hi Kelly. I have just moved here from Northern California. My husband got a promotion/relocation so here we are!

Looks great!! I can see all your pictures clearly now! They are lovely, and your dog is soo adorable. I bet she is spoiled rotten!
  • sgomez

Your welcome. Well, it worked! Your page looks real good now. And I can't wait to see you new baldy pics! And don't scare me about school!! I'm really nervous right now. I'm sure I'm making it out to be worse than it really is. I'll get over it!
  • sgomez

    Aww......thanks. :) I'm sure I'll do fine.
  • sgomez

Yes she did. I talked to her on Wednesday. I told her that I would email her as to when and where our first official meeting will be. I told her that I wanted to talk to you ladies first and get some input and ideas. It's coming along :) Thank you so much for everything.
  • sgomez

Just like you said in your blog, it's God's timing.

    Hi Kelly,

Nice to know it's not too hot yet. I need to visit my family before summertime.

Well........He called me right when I got onto the 101. Talk about perfect timing! When I got home the house was turned upside down. No one did their chores, but I didn't even care because I had such a great day! My husband was so happy for me. He thought that it was a great idea for us to get together. Everyone loved the pictures too. My kids asked me,"Mom, why didn't you buy the pink wig??" They wanted me to go back and buy it! lol!
P.S. Guess what my hubby made everyone for lunch? .........Sandwiches! I knew it.
  • sgomez

Brandy was great!! I can't stop thinking about our day. I'm thinking about going back to get my wig thinned out a bit. It feels really heavy on the sides, but I still love it! I wore it up today, and no tags were sticking out! lol! So when do you get a break from school?
Oh, I wanted to tell you that if you needed help in finding a place to have our meetings, I can help. You know, I can go and check places out and make some phone calls. Have you had any luck so far? I need to get back to Laura soon. She told me that she needs at least one month's notice about the meetings.
Well, I'll talk to you later. Take care. You can call me anytime, too. Sarah
