I've had alopecia since I've been 16. I shaved my head in May 2005. I go through stages of having eyelashes and then none. Eyebrows have grown back now. It's been 4 years that I've had them. I'm a speech language pathologist working in Texas.I like to work out and cook. I'm a nerd. I love to dance and play my guitar. I love my alopecia. Its a good story to tell other people about my fun adventures. I've had it for a few years now. I'm still the same person --fun, blessed, cheerful, peppy, outgoing and happy!

Hey do people ever tell you it is because you work out that you have lost your hair. People always tell me that- it annoys me! I cant imagine not doing exercise!! Anyway I hope you win the pagent! You are a great inspiration to us! I know someone else asked you this but do you wear a wig when you work out?
  • Kaitlyn

You are very beautiful. I really hope that you do go for Miss NY and win. It would raise so much awareness. Congratulations on the pageant you've already won. I hope that someday I find the courage to do something that requires such courage. You really are a role model.

  • Jill Newman

Hi im Jill. I am a new member and your story is very inspirational .. i think there should def be a bald miss america that would be great!!

I have not completely lost all my hair but i have been fighting myself lately about getting a wig, so i can just forget about my alopecia and not be so worried about my hair all the time. I see that you wear a wig and it looks great! Do you like it? Can you do stuff with it? I dont want to bombard you with questions but its nice to talk to someone who knows from experience because i have had alopecia since i was 9 and have never really talked to anyone else who has it.
  • Ev

Hey Stacie, I dont have to wear a wig yet. I have lost about 30% of my hair but I have managed to hide the bald spots. It is getting harder now though especially with one at the top of my head. My boyfriend will often tell me if it is visible so I can do a quick flick of the hair!!
I think it is so cool that you won the beauty pagent, what kind of wig do you wear? and are they expensive?
  • Carol

    Hey Stacie

Way to go on the pageant!!! I think it's great that you are associated with the miss America org. and what a wonderful way to show alopecian women that they too are beautiful - you need only beleive!
  • heathen

What an awesome role model you are! Congrats on your win
  • Carol

LMAO I'd pay to see that! For once I'd be eager to watch a miss america contest on TV. Let us know if you ever plan doing anything about your alopecia while you're involved - you have my full support! :D
  • Carol

Oh and I wanted to ask - how do they keep that itty bitty crown on the top of your head????
  • Ev

Hey thanks for the wig info-I will look them up. I am not sure I could shave my head just yet!! although it is sooo windy here now I am showing my bald spots unwillingly.. I am kind of used to covering them up.

I am sorry to hear that you broke up with your bf. My bf is cool with the hair thing we were going out about 2 years when it started to fall out!! I used to tease him about going bald (even though he has all his hair) and then mine fell out!! mocking is catching- eh lol!!
  • Beth

    Hi Stacie,
Congratulations on the beauty pagent and bringing awareness to the public. You definitely have your act together. Do you come in to the City much? If so, I live in Hoboken, NJ and work in midtown. Would love to get together one of these days.
Also, where do you get your hairpiece and how active can you be in it? I currently wear a hard vac from Wigs International but I believe it is going out of business so I need to start looking at alternatives..
    Thanks!
  • Erin

Hey just wanted to say way to go! You will be an insparation(well are) to young girls with alopecia!
  • jennifer

    Hi Stacie,
What an inspiration you are to many and me! I too was a beauty queen. I was the Junior Orange Bowl queen a very long time ago and the prom queen for my High School. I have to be honest, I haven't felt as confident without my hair, but seeing you and how you "pull off" the wig look has inspired me! Thank you! :)
