I live in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. I'm 29 years old and I've had alopecia areata since I was 12 years old. I have the most loving and supportive husband and family, and I consider myself a very lucky girl. It's great to see all the alopecia support networks and groups on facebook and on the internet. It's great to meet other people who either have alopecia or know people who have it. Thanks :)
HI Katie. I'm 30, married and mom to two beauties. I also have the most supportive husband in the world...I'm not sure what I would do without him in my life. Friends and family have also been great as well.
I was diagnosed in Oct. But it started before June. My wedding was Sept.1st and we thought maybe it was stress. Unfortunately I'm saying "goodbye" to the few hairs (my head is now shaved) that grow back and "hello" to wigs and wraps. Currently though I'm finding I get headaches when wearing my wig. Not sure if anyone else has that problem.
Anyway,...glad to see you here. It's been a wonderful place for us. Hope to get to know you more.
Hi Katie,
I have had Alopecia Areata for the past 6 years. Hanging on to the few strands of hair I have left but only for the sake of my 9 year old son, he is a little worried about mommy being bald. How did it work out for you? I am so ready to get rid of what is left. I get headaches if I wear hats for too long, I don't think I could wear a wig for very long.
Nice to meet you.
Yes, I've lived here all of my life. A tried and true 'island girl'. lol. Where did you live before moving to Vancouver? Are you right in town, or on the outskirts? I just had a visit over there with some friends last weekend - I'm SO afraid of the traffic! But I love the skytrain - that's fantastic! I have to admit, I went a little shop crazy at Ikea. Good thing we don't have one over here...
