About Me:
I have been living with alopecia since 1991. Throughout the years, I have had alopecia areata and alopecia totalis. My life is not over, so there is still time for alopecia universalis. ;-) I have had many ups and down and find that I always come out on the other side standing tall.

It has always been a given for me to reach out to others with alopecia. I just did it naturally. I became involved in our local support group in Montreal, participated in the annual conferences of the National Alopecia Areata Foundation (NAAF), and also served as president of the Quebec Alopecia Areata Foundation (QAAF).

Someone once asked me what I planned to do after I moved to the USA. My initial thought was to attend or start a support group in Michigan, but I eventually settled on the wonderful idea of creating Alopecia World with my husband, rj jones, who was my fiancé at the time (2008).

On a personal note, I like to blend femininity and strength. A woman can be strong and physically capable as well as soft and feminine. For a long time, I thought I "had" to be one or the other, and I had a hard time finding my place. Blending both is very gratifying, indeed.

I also like to keep active. It does not have to be extreme. It can be a bike ride, walking, painting a room in the house, or cleaning the garage.

In April 2008, I married rj, a very special man that supports me in my alopecia and is the catalyst and the great mind behind the research and design of this site.

Please feel free to "friend" rj and me: We would love to make your acquaintance.

Welcome to our world AlopeciaWorld.com!

Thank you! I'm glad you are doing well...and I also would love to meet you. Wish they would have a convention in San Francisco, Portland or Seattle!
Wow, RJ is a gifted pianist. Does he have any CDs?
You are both very blessed to have each other...
  • LeslieAnn Butler

AHA! Talent runs in the family. That's too bad he hasn't put together a CD because I would love to hear that beautiful music playing in my home! I enjoy collecting the music of people I know personally.
    Tell him for me...
Anyway, thank you for doing so much good -- Alopecia World is such a blessing for so many people.
I wish you were closer so I could have you both over and maybe RJ could even play my piano!

Thank you for the birthday wishes. I pray that all is well with you and yours. I will not be at NAAF this year so we will have to plan for other ways to take that fabulous group photo. Let's make that happen. I would love to meet you in person. Many Blessings.

To my life partner, my heartfelt thanks for your birthday greeting. My life has changed only for the better ever since you sent me a friend request on MySpace a few years ago. I can't help but to teem with great expectations as I look forward to the rest of our journey. Love, rj

Thank you Cheryl for the positive feedback. This has been hard on all of us. My little girl is doing great with Alopecia. At least she knows what happens. even at 6 yo, she can tell people what she has. The one thing she forgets to tell kids or other people she sees is that it is not contagious!! We shaved her little head because she had bald spots and maybe about 10-15% hair left on her head. Her teachers have informed students about this and When she get's into the next grade, I and a one other person will be talking to her class. Thanks again.
  • Robynn Jonsen

Cheryl, has anyone brought to your attention the news story shown last night on NBC nightly news? I would like to find out more about the appearant discovery and potential cure discussed. I have a son who is suffering significant socially from this disorder and would do anything to help him.
    Regards, Dave

    Hello Cheryl,

Thank you for your warm welcome,
Just by looking at the site, you can see the people are kind and wonderful... I hope to share my experiences with everyone!
    greetings from France, Shanila
  • Roma

    You write french well!
  • Lynn

    Hi Cheryl,
Thank you for welcoming me...a year ago! I haven't really been back since then. Guess most of the time I live in complete denial. I just don't want Alopecia to be the world I live in...yet it is. After 20 yrs, you'd think I would accept this fate and I haven't. I'm still angry about it, I still cry like a baby..like now. Just talking about it makes me cry. I'm also angry that I just can't seem to accept it like a lot of people here.
I literally feel like my hair defines who I am and I don't know how to get out of that.
My hair is at it's worst since I was able to go wig free 15 yrs ago. I had a good 15 yrs and now I'm literally on this site trying to find out where and how to go about getting a wig. So much information and choices with such a delicate decision. Ugh!
  • Roma

:) maybe oneday we can have a conversation in french?
Being british myself I have lived in france for 7 years i speak reasonably well though the language challenges me all the time! lolol

    bonne weekend
  • Jordyn Charthern

    too all
  • Lynn

I wish there was a section in everyones profile that stated what kind of wig they wear! Seems that's what everyone wants to know..including me :)
  • Danielle Royce

Babe, you are not "bald and beautiful," but beautiful and bald. In other words, you are not beautiful despite being bald, but a beautiful woman who only happens to be bald. You make the look -- the look does not make you. Love, #1 Husband, rj :-)
  • Galena

I co-sign with rj Sis. By the way, His Purple Badness aka Prince was seated next to a beautiful and bald woman last night on the BET Awards. Just wondering if you saw it. I was floored... Now that's called Royal Awareness. Much love to you and rj--enjoy the summer.
