I'm 37 and just discovered I have Alopecia Areata going for Totalis
I'm a professional artist ,I paint large portraits of women Hmm perhaps the look of my paintings will change to Bald Beauties. I'm married and I have 4 children.
At first loosing my hair was very difficult ,traumatic really
I've learned to like myself regardless Wigs can be fun and those bad days come around a lot less
Thanks for the comment. When I go outside, my eyes have no pigment and are light green. If I didnt have my glasses on, I would not be able to see at all.. :o(
Thank you for sending me a message :) your such a sweetie...

No, I'm just a member of the support group. The group is a life saver. As to the ferret in the living room...well, he does just about anything he pleases or so it seems...talk about an attitude!
Holy cow! You talk about my cakes! They are nothing compared to your artwork! Wow! I seriously can't even master the "stickman".....LOL
I see you are the creative type too! Gosh my cakes are just icing you squeeze through a bag. They are fun and I enjoy doing them so much but haven't done any since my dinosaur cake in May because Lauren keeps me so busy....
Your children are beautiful! You look beautiful bald too wow! I should really take pictures of what my head is doing right now. I still have hair and have been losing since May of this year. I am on the wig hunt right now for the perfect wig before I go back to work in January so the stress is really on right now....
What was the name of the wig you bought the mono one? What was the color as well because it was beautiful.....You lucked out on that one....
Yes we sure love our new daughter. She is a handful of surprises every single day now that she is 22 months old.....
I totally agree it is nice to make friends with people who get it... It is such a hard thing to go through this whole hairloss thing.......I absolutely hate it..... We cheer each other up though.......So you lost your hair pretty quickly. Wow. Well I am getting there.....
You know Lauren is so adventurous right now. She starts daycare part time in two weeks...yeah! I don't go back until January so I have a bit of time to myself. She is wearing me out!
Hi Amber, you look beautiful as well! Also, your portraits are amazing. I wish I were as talented an artist as you. I do, however, draw very good stick figures. :)
Awe thank you so much amber ! My mom also went through this and she ended up losing her intire head of hair :( I am scared it will happen to me that way too. It started off a small spot in the back top of my head and it has grew very large and brought 3 others along with it. It is always nice to have friends family and a good support system to get you through the rough times !!
Yes isn't she great...I can't believe I've only just discovered her! She's Australian too so I must be really out of the loop :( Yes my wigs are human hair...In my pics I'm wearing a suction Freeedom wig [virgin hair], a couple of processed hair Remy lace wigs, and a thin skin virgin hair wig. They're all custom made to template of my head. I have a pin head and most wigs off the rack are way way too big for me. It's more expensive this way but I love the way they fit so snug and the hair is just beautiful.
Hi Amber, just got to tell you I'm going to a life drawing class this Thursday morning...I'm so thrilled. I did this a few years ago and loved it so I'm hoping this will kick-start my artistic endeavors once again.
Thursday's life drawing class was great! The 2 hours just flew by and I'm so looking forward to next week. They also have a workshop every couple of months plus one group meets once a month for portrait drawing. I'm hoping to go to both eventually. John my hb has volunteered to be a model but keeping still for even a minute is not really what he's about let alone 10 minutes or longer :)
Wow you look stunning and your paintings are truly unbelievable. You look fabulous without your wig. My daughter has had totalis since she was almost 4 and has had regrowth this being her 2nd time. She was wearing a wig for about 10 months but recently decided she didnt want to so we let her go to school without and she was so confident her head held high.
It seems that alopecians are such beautiful people (I have yet to see one that has a knobby head lol)
take care :)
I have been enjoying looking at your art and blog. I love the way you look without your wig and with the scarf on your blog pic - I am a bit of a scarfaholic myself. :o)
Yes I've seen a dermatologist at the Georges Dumont. She perscribed a lotion for me to use and if that doesn't help she plans on doing the injections. I see her again next month. I noticed my first spot last month and now have several. I have good days and some bad but my family has been very supportive and I do find that this site is helpful as well. Thank you for adding me.
Hi there, thanks for the comment. I must say you are an amazing looking bald woman - go you. Painting must be such an outlet for you, that and your wonderful children. Great to find someone of similar age going through this for some reason and your shaved photos show a similar pattern to my current look. Anyways thanks again.
Happy Valentine's to you too pretty Amber!
There’s a story behind my pin name. My internist is my age. It has made for some interesting conversations, me being in law enforcement and him in medicine. His bedside manner is great, but he has of course been of no help with alopecia. In my visit to him for an unrelated condition, he looked at me when I showed him my shaved head a said with a smile, “You look like Nefertiti, queen of the Nile”. I just stared at him and the pause between us almost got uncomfortable when he said, “Nefertiti was a beautiful woman.” I replied, “I know, thank you but my hair lost has been a tough adjustment.” He then said, “I know, I’m sorry.”
After I got home, I refreshed my memory of Nefertiti and found a site on her that also mentioned that she and most Egyptian women wore a kohl product on their eyes called, galena. I chose it for that reason. Also it’s a combo of my nickname Lena and where I’m from, Georgia.
I love what you paint
My sister offered me the pink she told that it was on a market I've never found athers anymore
you should ask to someone who makes different things with pearls
it's very interesting what you say about gluten intolerance because I want to try food without gluten
take care of you

Amberm, Love your profile picture. Just read one of your posts on gluten free diet...50% regrowth sounds promising. I'm losing everything!!! Although, life is good. It's weird at first this alopecia was devastating, and now...I have no real emotion to it. Love my hairpieces, and myself...still. So weird. I love your page. LOVE your artwork. How much is an artpiece? I would love to get some artwork for our livingroom. Wondering if you paint from pictures? Let me know...because your artwork is wonderful.
Well she really did a great job. I'm still plugging away with life drawing class although I seem to be going backwards...last time I used my non dominant hand as I thought it would free me up but it turned out just the same! Weird...by the way I love the portrait you posted on your blogspot :)
I am currently AU. After losing my hair I was depressed about my eyelashes and eyebrows... still wanting eyelashes because I speak with my eyes. But, the only growth of hair has been a big fat black hair on my chin!!!! HA! Guess I have to be really specific when envisioning and asking the Universe!
Amber,
Hi there, I was reading your blogs and I'm curious, Did you ever test for Celiac? Were you positive? Did you keep up your diet all this time? Also, did you ever receive any other treatments? I think I'm getting close to AT and I don't really know what to do at this point. I was thinking about getting tested for Celiac soon. I just don't know if that will resolve the hair coming back or not because it's two separate things, right? I'm glad that your hair came back! Your artwork is beautiful. Thanks for any feedback. :) Melissa
i know you hair has grown back, Congrat;s on that... i just wanted to know if you remember the information on where you got your short bob wig and what it was called? thank you
Thanks for getting back to me... I wanted to look into the shoter blond one, I have to send my hair in for repair in the next few weeks so i need to find another to wear and that one is really cute. I also wanted to ask you about your diet. I am thinking about taking gluten out of my diet for a while to see what happens I figure what can it hurt. Then if I can do that I'll cut out the dairy and so on. How long after taking these things out did you see regrowth.
well thank you for your help
I know I fiugred it was a long shot, however I have only been gluten free for a few days and have noticed and I'm not sure if it's just in my head but I'm not baloted after eating. I could literally feel my tummy fill up with gas, it was very uncomfortable. I am pregnant right now so I plan on gong in for any extra test that can be done after I have my last little bumpkin to see if there is anything else that can be found out. I right now have Hashimoto's disease which is hypothyroidism and almost AU so who know what else I may have lol... Anyway thank you for all your posting your right it may not help but it's cool to see what everyone has tried. Good luck to you.
I am going to check out ebay for some wigs tonight, I paid alot for the vacc wig I have now and with 4 kids I can't get more then one. I think it would be fun trying to styles and colors
Thanks for the comment. You are right - you are special and unique.
Looked at your photos. Your family is beautiful. How old are your other children?
I love your paintings. You have alot of talent. Having your art would be very good for you to help express your feelings I guess. My daughter, now 21, used to draw alot when she was in high school. It helped her to relieve stress.
