I was diagnosed with AA in 2007 and since then i have lost my right eyebrow, my left eyelashes, and despite being positive and healthy have watched my alopecia get worse and worse. It is now at a point where I can't hide it anymore and now i never want to leave the house. The wind is my enemy. I hate this. I feel so alone.
Hello and welcome, Gabriela!
I know how hard alopecia can be; I have had it for about 30 years. You might want to read my book, "If Your Hair Falls Out, Keep Dancing!" It will give you a lot of helpful information, including research, medical, treatment , inspirational stories from other women, and some humor, too! It has received two national awards, including Book of the Year. You can find out more on my page. It's available on Amazon.com. Let me know if there's anything else I can do! I am here to help.

Hi, Gabriella, welcome to AW! I have had alopecia for a real long time (19 years) & I know how difficult it can be. I'm not sure if you are new to alopecia, but you will find so much support here. If you ever want to vent or you just need some support, know you can count on me & the many people here on AW. Take care & stay strong :)
Hi Gabriela,
I also live in MA. I have gone from AA to AT and had regrowth and back to AT all since 2007. The group called Alopecians from Mass. is having a get together this Saturday at the state park in Hopkinton. If you are interested check out the "groups " section .
The park is located west of Boston near Rt. 495. You can take the commuter rail from South Station and get off in Southboro. The park is about a 1/3 mile from there. If you can get yourself to Southboro, call my cell 508-341-2070 and I'll come pick you up.
HI Gabriela,
Some glitch in the system; I just got your post from the 13th ! I have to agree that the waiting is soooo stressful. Not knowing if the loss will stop and the regrowth will happen is torture. And being at college: I guess that could make it an easier or more difficult situation depending on your family. lol ( I've got 2 teens, my daughter is a senior and in the middle of the college search thing. We have our moments..)
I've found this site to be a valuable resource to me in the hair loss situation we are in...
Hola! Gabriela
Vivo en Caracas cuando quieras comunicate conmigo tengo 4 años AA y me encanta andar sin peluca, me siento diferente y me gusta que me vean diferente. Ya que no estoy enferma si no que no tengo cabello.
Hi, Gabriela, I hope you're having a nice summer, too. Are you getting cortizone shots from the doc? I used to get those and I remember they kinda hurt. I hope they work for you, though! I know what you mean about the girls with big, fat lashes in the ads, but one thing to keep in mind is that they are all wearing fake ones anyway! :) Take care, Gabriela. It's always nice hearing from you!
Hi, Gabriela, it was so nice to hear from you. I hope you are doing well as you wrap up the semester. I took this semester off, and am trying to get ready for the holidays. This time of year can be so crazy, for sure. One thing I'm trying to do is to remember the blessed things in my life as I prepare for Christmas. Good luck with finals and everything and have a great holiday!
Hello Gabriella. What a beautiful name! Jillian is still using DCP once a week, low dose, minimal sparse dabbing to apply. We have found that her cycle is somewhat like a bird molting its feathers ( only in the opposite order). During darker colder fall & winter months she loses her hair. When the alopecia is more active during those months we apply the med more frequently & sometimes increase the dose during that time as well. Apply to spots when its active & do random dabs when it seems to be the growing season. This works for her so far. I should post some recent pics. Last spring her crown was bald, now she has about 4 inches of hair on it & the spots she lost over the winter have about 2 inches of new hair. We also use a narrowband UV light (phototherapy) in the winter for a few minutes a day a couple times a week in hopes of mimicing the suns natural effects of heat & light to her scalp. I know her alopecia is still active because her body hair is still patchy, & minimal but it even grows back more in the summer. Eyebrow & eyelash loss are less in the summer as well. So we continue to use the DCP as a "maintenance" dose. She tolerates it well & has achieved the desired effect with minimal itchiness & irritation but enough for it to work. Good luck to you. Keep us posted.
Hello. Jillians pediatric dermatologist allows us to purchase the DCP from a local compounding pharmacyvia prescription & I apply it myself at home...cautiously. Mabye this will be possible for you as well.
Wigs are annoying, but you get used to it and it becomes like an extension of yourself! Haha. The wigs I had all through high school required that double-sided tape to hold to my head, but I have a wig now that sorta suctions itself to my head haha.
I moved to NYC about two weeks ago! I'm still getting used to it. I was in DC for the past four months, so I've grown accustomed to the east coast weather at least haha. Are you in NYC?

Yeah, definitely! What area of NYC do you live in? I'm going to be out of town this weekend, but I'll be around next weekend!
