I am almost 35 and was diagnosed in April 2011 with scarring alopecia. Having a mother who started to lose her hair in her mid-30s, I was always worried it would happen to me, then it did. I suffer from scarring alopecia and have had burning, soreness, itching, and gradual hair loss for the last decade. This August, I cut off my dreadlocks which I had been wearing for 12 years since the thinning and receding were getting to be too much, and my dermatologist suggested giving my scalp a "break." I am wearing a wig now and contemplating what the future will bring.
Welcome Claudiaclaude, I too have scarred alopecia. This is a wonderful site, which has given me the confidence to shave what hair I had left and to step out into the world bald.
Hello Claudia it is noce to meet some people that live in my area. I feel so alone in all of this. My kids have been great with all of this and trying to make me feel better but it just seems like I keep asking myself "why me" I had always had long, thick beautiful blonde hair and now I feel lost and not sure what to do.
Claudia, I'm glad to hear that I have been an inspiration to you. It was very difficult back when I was diagnosed in April 2010, but now that time has passed by I have grown and now have more courage and confidence to go out in public with my head held high. Shaving my head was the BEST thing I did to help me cope with my alopecia. I hope and pray that you too will find the same confidence that I did when I shaved my head. God Bless.
Thanks for the kind words. Just got a little misty. *sniffle*
By the time you're ready to cut your locs you'll feel pretty clear about it. Then possibly, like many of us, you may wonder why you didn't do it sooner. Take your time. It'll come when you're ready.
