Hello! I'm Haley Rae. I'm 19 and currently attending county college as a criminal justice major. I was diagnosed with Alopecia around a year old. Since then I have never had more then a few pieces of hair on my head ( I was pumped, even gelled the one) All throughout my schooling prek- 12th grade, I wore my wigs. Some nicer then others. I never thought I was pretty, I thought having no hair some how made me ugly. I got bullied pretty bad in middle and high school. But looking back on that it made me the person I am today. Something happened my junior year in high school that slowly started breaking me out of this fear of being "ugly" My hair actually flew off in gym class. Hit by a volley ball and sailed to the other side. I was devastated. My friends though. reassured me that it was okay. Slowly from that day i started little by little leaving my wigs behind. Today I am almost 20 years old and i rarely wear my wigs. It took me 19 years but I'm proud to say, I'm beautiful, with or without hair. Now that I'm comfortable with myself, I hope to help others not just with Alopecia but anything that makes them feel "ugly" Thats why I'm running for Miss New Jersey, All natural! I'm super excited to do so! So please keep me in your thoughts and prayers
Just read your comment on teens with alopecia. You are amazing with your outlook my daughter Olivia and is almost 9 she has alopecia universalis and does not wear a wig and feels most days confident but i am so scared for her teen years but you have made me feel so much better with your attitude. You should be so proud of yourself for not falling prey to the stigma of having to look a certain way to be beautiful.
