About Me:
Hello! I'm Haley Rae. I'm 19 and currently attending county college as a criminal justice major. I was diagnosed with Alopecia around a year old. Since then I have never had more then a few pieces of hair on my head ( I was pumped, even gelled the one) All throughout my schooling prek- 12th grade, I wore my wigs. Some nicer then others. I never thought I was pretty, I thought having no hair some how made me ugly. I got bullied pretty bad in middle and high school. But looking back on that it made me the person I am today. Something happened my junior year in high school that slowly started breaking me out of this fear of being "ugly" My hair actually flew off in gym class. Hit by a volley ball and sailed to the other side. I was devastated. My friends though. reassured me that it was okay. Slowly from that day i started little by little leaving my wigs behind. Today I am almost 20 years old and i rarely wear my wigs. It took me 19 years but I'm proud to say, I'm beautiful, with or without hair. Now that I'm comfortable with myself, I hope to help others not just with Alopecia but anything that makes them feel "ugly" Thats why I'm running for Miss New Jersey, All natural! I'm super excited to do so! So please keep me in your thoughts and prayers

God bless you Haley. I am 62 and have had AA off and on since college. A year ago I lost all my hair within a week. I work in a hospital and when I get a compliment on my hair I use it as a reason to educate people on alopecia. I have four wigs , all different colors and styles. I don't wear my scarves at work because I register cancer patients on a daily basis and their pain is real. Me? I just have a cosmetic condition - nothing life threatening. Thank you for what you are doing to educate many a, many people.w. good luck in the pageant. A you are a beautiful young woman

Thanks Haley!! Glad we are friends. You have my admiration for being such a wonderful role model. I'm cool with AU, love my 'hair' or love not wearing it depending on what I'm doing (gardening - not!). So good to see confidence and freedom at work!
