- 20 years old going on 21 on April 20th. Found out I had alopecia areata when I was 15 years old. I went to the dermatologist and suggested no more caffeine etc. By the time I was 17 I had no more bald spots and I was able to wear my hair any style again. My senior year of high school came and another bald spot showed up but went away faster then what I expected. I'm going on 21 years old and it's acting up again. I'm losing part of my eyebrow and a bald spot on the left side of my head has showed up. had any bald spots. However, my boyfriend had alopecia as well. At age 16 is when it got worse and he had a huge bald spot on the back of his head. Every time one spot grew, another showed up. I can't cry anymore, dwell on it, or be angry. Having a relative who's had it for years has really shower me that life goes on and there is happiness! Not only my relative, but my boyfriend has it too. He's going on 20 this year and at 17 he tried the steroid injection on his scalp. Nothing was working so he stopped and now he's trying to learn to embrace it. He now has only 1 bald spot on his head and lost part of his eyebrows. It's been a struggle with people asking "why does he do his eyebrows like that"? It's just ALOPECIA! And I'm very lucky to have him in my life because regardless of everything, we can relate 100% and support each other.
