Hi Elizabeth, I am sorry to hear your grandson is facing some uncomfortable social situations. Have you contacted the Childrens Alopecia Project? They maybe able to put you in touch with a local family who has child with Alopeica. They may also have some material to help you deal with some challenging issues your grandson is starting to face. I find that at this young age kids are more interested in playing then physical appearance. My daughter has never had an issues. Does he understand what Alopeica and if not have you been able to try to explain what Alopeica is? It is important for him to demonstrate some understanding so he can communicate it to others. Although 4 is still a young age to understand it all. I would educate his classmates and send home information to the parents so they can sit down and talk to their child. It is important for your grandson to know he is not different. He can do anything that any other child his age does. He just has no hair. When Sam lost her hair people told me to explain to her that her body was allergic to her hair. And you can explain what an allergy is the different kinds of allergies people have. Also let your son know that even grown ups can lose their hair. That is is not alone. I hope some of this info helps. Also contact NAAF. www.naaf.org. They can send you material as well.

Good luck and write again!
