I am a single parent with two beautiful daughters and a handsome grandson.
As a little girl growing up in Barbados I was teased every day. I went to school with hats and wigs at the very young age of 9. I got injections in my head to re-grow my hair. It worked while I was receiving the injections. After a while I got tired of the injections and refused to go back. Through the years my hair would grow and fall out again. Today, it is worse than it has ever been. My head is totally bald and now I am losing my eyebrows.
This lifelong experience has be truly a roller coaster ride. I went to the specialists and my own doctor. They all told me it was hopeless. So far only people who are really close to me know of my situation. Growing up in the Caribbean I was taught to be ashame of my hair loss.
I am always looking for a cute wig and I have finally come to terms with my alopecia and for first time, am speaking openly about it. Thank you for setting up this website!!!!

I'm from Barbados and I can relate to what you're saying. I read what people from across the world say and how accepting they are of Alopecia. But its not like that in Barbados. I don't know anyone else who has it, but I know I can't be the only one. Hopefully I can find some other C'bean people.
Hi Esther,
I wanted to say hello and welcome you to Alopecia world. I grew up in Melrose, MA but moved to NH about 15 years ago. My daughter lives in Somerville with her bf. I also wanted to tell you of an Alopecia get together I have coordinated to take place on this Saturday, September 13th at the Cheesecake Factory in Boston at 11 a.m. There will be about 12 of us there and you are most welcome to come too. We would love to meet you. Let me know if you are interested. I'm trying to get a final head count. If not, I'm sure there will be others. Again, welcome to Alopecia World and I hope to see you soon.
Love and Hugs,
Dotty
