Hi I'm Harriet. I developed ophiasis alopecia 3 months ago quite severely and out of the blue. I'm 27 years old and married to Adam, who has been amazing. I work as the manager of a team of drugs workers in a prison. Iv lost about 50% of my hair already and it's spreading behind and above my ears now. Iv heard ophiasis is the hardest to treat and not a good prognosis so I went shopping shopping for a wig yesterday- one of the hardest things I think Iv had to do and didn't expect it to be. I'm still grateful that I have hair on to to cover the patches but it's getting v thin. I know how lucky I am to have an amazing family and perfect health, it's just the thought of having to go to work with a wig or shaved head which is a struggle. I'm very inspired by everyone who has been going through this a lot longer than me and can rock the shaved head with confidence
Is picture one a wig? It is adorable....My hair loss is your exact pattern, the nape of my neck, around by my ears.....and the rest is just plain overall thinning....in general. I, like you, can still just wear my thin strands down to cover up a bit, and a baseball cap is my best friend. Alopecia sucks.....join Wigsupport.com. Lots of women from all over the country are on it.....lots of good wig ideas, if you are up for them. Meet you there....you'll enjoy it. http://www.wigsupport.com/forums/search.php?search_id=unanswered
aWelcome to AW and welcome to my group. I also have the pattern where I have no hair on the nape of my neck and it goes up around my ears, thinning everywhere else, but I can only wear my straggly hair down to cover the bare area. I feel the same as you do about wearing a wig every day, and I live in a very hot climate, so very hard. My hair keeps getting thinner and thinner and creeps up higher. I will soon HAVE to wear a wig every day just to look and feel somewhat better !!! This just sucks!!!
