About Me:
I've had AA on and off (mostly on!) for 20+ years. Have probably tried every treatment under the sun, but no more chasing rainbows for me. AA has just got progressively worse, very slowly, over each year with, I think, just one phase of total regrowth in the early days.

Currently at about 90% loss and that which still grows is pure white, so I no longer have that tell-tale 'map of the world' on my scalp. In the last month, my eyelashes and eyebrows have started going. Losing lashes and brows is something I've always expected would happen, so whilst it's no surprise, it is still quite hard to adapt to my changing appearance. It is frustrating to have to rebuild my face every morning. Not as quick and easy as throwing on a wig to replace my hair. I am grateful that at least I have the ability/option to rebuild my appearance, and that my disfigurement can be disguised. But I do find it hard to accept my blank/unmade up face first thing in the morning. I know it's going to take time to master the new techniques such as applying false lashes, but I will get there.

I'm long past the panic-phase of alopecia and just to let my hair do what it's gonna do, and I no longer get stressed or upset by it. I did enough crying in the early years, but that's all behind me now. No hair is worth that many tears! I'm fairly comfortable wearing wigs or going au naturale - depending on where I am and who I'm with.

After years of searching and a few disasters, I found my perfect wig and a fantastic wigmaker in London. In my opinion (and a few others who I've introduced to her!) she really is the holy grail of wigmakers. Fabulous top quality hair, wigs to die for and service second to none. If only she had been my first stop all those years ago, I'd have saved myself a pretty penny and a lot of heartache. The company I now use is called Gali Wigs. They may not suit everyone. We all have our personal likes and dislikes when it comes to wigs, but they certainly tick all my boxes. :)

Hi Jaye - love to hear more about your wigmaker in London? I'm in Golden CO and wondered-how do they work with you? Is there anyone else in the USA you would recommend? I'm asking as I LOVE your hair --- looks amazing! Love your attitude as well :) I'm 45, had aa since I was 5 - my twin brother has had universalis since then...Just 4 months ago I lost everything (radiation and menopause didn't help)...getting used to it and quite okay with no wig at home but a MUST is a wig when I'm working (Realtor)...are your eyelashes still on ?

Hi Jaye

It is, good to hear from you! I didn't think I would be able to make the next meeting but plans have changed and expect to be free, looking forward to meeting the specialist coming along!

How are things with you?

Hi Jaye,
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I have'nt forgotten the pics, will try to do them today. I tried on Monday, had my hair tied up ready only to find that the camera was still in my husbands car from the weekend and he was at work.
Take care
