I'm 49 and just diagnosed with LP and FFA . I have always struggled with skin and stomach issues (hives, acne, IBS). About 8 years ago, 3 years after my third child I started having lots of issues. I had an Mirena IUD implanted and immediately felt horrible, bleeding all the time, mood was off the hook and went into a depressive anxiety ridden downward spiral and I had 3 children under 5. I went on Zoloft and demanded that the IUD be removed hoping that was the answer. Well it wasn't and I remained on Zoloft and added Wellbutrin along with 20 pounds.
Eventually I felt better emotionally but the weight and noticing that I was losing hair in one eyebrow was bothering me. Went to multiple doctors ( allergist, dermatologist, endocrinologist) and no answers , thyroid was fine. Hating myself and feeling really lost , my friend told me about her holistic therapies she was using for her chronic asthma. I met with her accupuncturist and holistic doctor. Accupuncturist identified numerous things I was allergic too and Doctor told me to cut gluten out and avoid numerous things based on my hair mineral analysis . she diagnosed me with a leaky gut and said my results were indicative of an autoimmune condition. She also told I had too much calcium in my blood and it was in my hair and was Not getting absorbed into bone. I worked with these holistic folks for a year lost weight and felt better but no real change in eyebrow hair. Stopped treatments cause they were costly but remained gluten free.
Around the end of this period I started having a bad reaction to sun exposure. My skin would become inflamed and very itchy. Still happens every summer , assumed it was a sun allergy. Never was able to confirm with a dermatologist. As far as eyebrows go my derm has been treating me with injections and latisse. Has helped till about a year ago. No real improvement and about 70-80% gone. In addition to the skin I had constant menstrul bleeding. No chose to have an oblation.
Two months ago I hurt my back and was going through a very stressful time at work and at home (financial) I was taking a large amount of ibuprofen and aleve for about a month. Soon after that I noticed my hair was not styling properly. On careful examination I noticed a lot of recession . That is where I am now.
Going back to my holistic treatment thoughts, I'm on the AIP diet and treating my leaky gut with large amounts of l glutamine. I'm taking Viviscal, minicycline and clobetsol topical. I go back to derm in 6 weeks. Shedding has gone down but itchy scalp at times.
I have also started drinking nettle tea and taking Tagamet since it has similar effects to finisteride. These were not approved by Doctor but I'm freaking out desperate. I recently read that magnesium oil applied to scalp is helpful to hair shaft. I have been applying this once a week along with rosemary essential oil after my shower. My husband thinks I'm crazy for doing too many things at once.
I'm looking to see if anyone has had success going the leaky gut route, nusing traditional acupuncture or by introducing bio available hormones.
Sorry for my life story but I personally think this is all associated with my condition.
To make matters worse, I have not been able to drink alcohol of any type. My face gets hot and burns. N just another inflammatory response that I don't want happening. I feel like I'm heading into a deep depression that I don't want to happen. I don't see a lot of hope out there for FFA and LP so if you have encouraging results, please share .
