About Me:
I am married (to a boy I met in kindergarten!) and have a 20 year old daughter and a 16 year old son. I am an elementary school teacher. I had a successful kidney transplant in May 2009. I was diagnosed with Alopecia Areata in January 2012. I am devastated at the thought of losing all of my hair. :(

IT HURTS

Yesterday, I went to the dermotologist for my 4th "round" of cortisone shots on my already sore scalp. Tears streamed down my face while I was being injected. The nurse stopped, put her hand on my shoulder and apologized for the pain. Taking a deep breath and wiping my sad eyes, I said, "It's not my head that hurts...It's my heart."

So, I am officially a member of Alopecia World....Just recently, Alopecia invaded my world.

It was a Friday, right before Christmas when I began complaining that my head felt sore (like it had been up in a tight ponytail). A few days after Christmas (Tuesday), I noticed an excessive amount of hair come out when I was rinsing the shampoo. The next day I noticed a single bald patch on my part. Michele. We all feel your pain. It's an emotional/psychological condition more so than physical. It's very traumatic. I know you are grief stricken. It will get better. You will find so much support here. You are not alone although you may feel all alone at the moment. I live in pittsford. My 17yo daughter has au. We are in a very good place now. Please message me if u need to talk or need any advice otherwise since we r so close. If u need a hand.....
