I have 2 daughters and 3 granddaughters and one of my granddaughters was recently diagnosed with alopecia. I am joining this website so that I can learn more about the disease and hopefully become the best support person I can for my granddaughter.
Are you age 18 or older?

Hi Patti!
I am from the Charlotte/ Burlington Area and I am hoping to get a support group started in NC. Please let me know of any questions you have and if you are interested. It is all sort of up in the air for now.
Hi Patti,
You are wonderful to want to be supportive. You might want to get your daughter or granddaughter my book, "If Your Hair Falls Out, Keep Dancing!" It has a lot of great info in it, and it's fun to read. Very upbeat. Check it out by going to my page, and if you want to buy it you can click the link or go to www.leslieannbutler.npauthors.com and you'll get a 30% discount. I wrote it for women like you and me --
If you get it, let me know how you like it!
Hugs, LeslieAnn
I live in town, so not exactly right on the river, but my family owns cottages on the River that we rent out to people for the summer and so my family gets to stay in it every 3rd week (it's split between my father and his two brothers and their family).
My parents are supportive, but they don't know really how to act around me. A lot of times my mother gets upset more than I am and my dad never even mentions it, which I guess is good because I'd just like life to be normal.
Acupuncture hasn't done anything yet for the alopecia. It does help with stress, relaxation and has given me more energy. I just like the fact that she's treating my whole body and not just the symptoms that show. I just started another treatment through my acupuncturist today and it's a little painful but she says it has the best chance of working. I wouldn't recommend acupuncture for a young child but I'll keep you posted about any results.
Thank you for the words of encouragment, I wish the best for you and your granddaughter
Hi Patti, I wanted to welcome you to Alopecia World. I can honestly say that we are a great community here and I hope you enjoy the time you spend with us. Cheryl, co-founder
I live about an hour and a half north on 81 of Syracuse in Clayton, NY which is funny that you live in Clayton, NC. What I said was true, my family for the most part doesn't understand the disease or make an effort to, so your granddaughter is very lucky.
Welcome Patti! I think it's so great that you're joining to learn more and be a huge support for your granddaughter. I am just going through the disease, but if I had it at a younger age I know it would have been nice if I was able to turn to my family for support and have them actually have an idea of what the disease is. Hope you find the information you need, the world needs more people like you.
