My 8 year old son has alopecia areata. Diagnosed in December 2010 but started losing hair in September 2010.
He has patchy spots on the back of his head. He is a great kid with a wonderful attitude!

Sue - My best friends' son was diagnosed around that age, too. He is now 15 and doing well, with an ocassional patch. I had my first bout at 16, and then after 25 years of remission it came back with a vegence. This is really a tough thing to deal with,I know. I hope your son goes into permanent remission soon.
