I'm a 33 year old married mother of two young children working and living in Los Angeles, California.
I first discovered a bald spot at the age of nineteen. My mother was hospitalized at the time of my discovery. Needless to say, I was very worried for her and stressed out. In my 14 years with alopecia areata, it seems to me that my hairloss is brought on by stress. I usually get 2-3 bald spots at a time a little bigger than a quarter. Sometimes they have are easy to conceal, others times, not so much :-( I was very self conscious the first couple of years. Always worrying about new patches showing up or worrying about losing all my hair.
When I was 23, I cut my hair really short to see how I would feel without my long locks. It was the most liberating feeling!
Now that I'm a mom, it seems I have too many other things to worry about so I don't have time or energy to obsess about my hair (or lack thereof!) Thank goodness!.
I have not had any kind of treatment and I don't think I really need it at this point. I'm told my maternal grandmother did not have any hair on her arms, including her arm pits, sorry TMI!

Hi Veronica! You're so pretty! It's a good thing you can think about your kids and stress less about the patches. I wish I could do that!! Take care and I hope you had a good mother's day!
