Bald at work

We'll, I made it through my first day! 90% of my hair had fallen out so I shaved the rest off over the holidays. I went back to work yesterday. I was full of anxiety. I decided to send an email to the people I worked with most often so they wouldn't be shocked or think I had cancer. The response was uplifting and I even ate lunch in the cafeteria with two of my close friends. I never thought I could do it. But I did! Onto day two!

Hello Everyone,

I see in the past there were people interested in getting a support group of sorts together for the Ottawa area. I'm here too and would be interested in chatting here with other Ottawans or getting together to see what everyone is doing for their alopecia. I have alopecia areata with about 90% hairloss. I shaved the rest off before the holidays, it was all just falling out anyway. I have been dealing with AA personally for about 10 yrs, but this is the most significant…

I have AA with dark patches of hair that I shave off every few days. I now have some peach fuzz filling in some of the bald spots. I wonder if I should be shaving them off or leaving them to grow. Does anyone have any experience with this and if so, did your new peach fuzz grow in?

After about a year most people send their's in for repair and maitenance. They shed hair over time like most wigs, and they can add hair to them. I've had mine for over a year when the cap tore .... not sure how, never heard of that happening. I just purchased a second hair piece and I'm sending the old piece back to Follea for repairs.

Vicki,

The Grippers run $4,000 to $6,000, depending on the model and length of the hair. The Gripper Sport is the cadillac of hair prosthesis, and is the most expensive. It's designed for those w/ an active lifestyle who need extra grip. The Gripper Cool is great in warmer weather, and runs about $4,500.

Hey Vicki. Right now I am just wearing my hair in a short pixie and covering the spots I have. My hair started to grow back so I have little hairs in my bald spots but I started going through another shed :(. The top of my head is so red and inflamed. It hurts so bad and then gets itchy. A friend of mine just got diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer so I told her I would shave my head with her. I have wanted to or some time but then I was ok with the pixie cut...until I started shedding again. Some spots show so I guess I will wait and see how big they get. How is the bald head? I have heard it is relieving to shave it. How did work go?

Wow, that's great, being a hairdresser and having alopecia.

I think you both would like the book! Let me know after you read it...and if you have any questions or just want to talk, I am here.

Hugs and blessings to you both!
