I have had alopecia for about 10 years, it all started when I was in high school. I wore a hear style called micro braids for 1 year. Every 2 months I would remove the micro- braids from my hair and immediately get them re-installed. After giving my hair a break, I noticed that the hair texture in the middle of my scalp started changing. It was a grayish color and becoming very thin. As I kept using different weaving methods, it progressively gotten worse till bald patches developed in the middle of my scalp. After visiting a dermatologist, I was told that my scalp is permanantly scarred. Now I am 26 and have learned to accept myself with having centrifugal cicatricial alopecia. This is a great site and I am glad to see that people living with alopecia have a support system.
