I feel so messed up today. Thursday afternoon I went to see my dermatologist and she found 2 more small bald patches. We agreed to treat them with squaric acid and injections since so far, I've had regrowth every time. But, it's the side affects that are bothering me at the moment. The spots on my head were really itchy yesterday and as long as I don't touch them and get the cooling gel on quick, then everything there is ok. But it's my neck that has a rash on the side now. I haven't experienced this yet but, it's pretty bad....like itchy needles. In the past I've felt an all over prickly feeling in my body with the use of squaric acid. And, I've also had a swollen gland on the back of my neck....which was my body's way of trying to rid me of what it considered to be toxic: the squaric acid. Ugh. Being this uncomfortable reminds me more than I need to be reminded that I have AA. There's no way to ignore the persistence of itchiness. One of the bald patches treated on Thursday is at front along my hairline...and I can cover it with a barrette. However, the redness from the squaric acid has spread onto my forehead...and I also have some redness from some spots I had zapped near my temple...so, I'm not looking so hot.

I hope tomorrow will be better. Thankfully I am glad that the weather is on the cold side here in Oregon because the itchiness would be so much more intense if it were hot. So, at least I have that going for me.

On another note, I decided to get my brows waxed professionally on Friday morning so I could have a new template to work with. It's just so ironic isn't it? Those dang caterpillars above my eyes grow like mad! And of course other hairs on my body popping up as a result of having endured 2 pregnancies = my hormones getting all crazied up.

Hiya Georgie,

I just wanted to check in to see your side effects are going? They sound pretty horrific. I'm wondering if it's worth it? I've always said no to this type of treatment because of the kind of stuff you're describing. I know it's personal choice and if it's working for you, keep at it but please bear in mind that there's no definite 'cure' for AA and it's a good idea to weigh up the odds of your treatment working against the discomfort you are experiencing. At least the AA itself isn't actually painful (save for the wincing in the mirror everyday!).
