Hello,
I've been thinking about the years I've worn wigs, hairpieces and after reading some of the blogs and pages here, I thought it would be a good idea to share my knowledge, advice, skills, etc with you all. Below are some of the sites I've shopped at and still shop at when needed. Also, I've rated them, please add your sites and advice. I think this would be helpful to those newly diagnosed who don't have a clue about purchasing wigs, hairpieces or weaves. Here goes...
the wigcompany.com
wowwigs.com
The wigs on these two sites are expensive although I've found a few of my most fabulous wigs here. They deliver promptly and correct any and all mistakes, no questions asked.
onthetop.com
This used to be my all time fav spot, they have a tab marked red tag clearance where you can buy expensive and beautiful wigs for a fraction of the cost. Takes about 7 days for normal delivery.
paulayoung.com
wilshirewigs.com
bestwigoutlet.com
These sites were a hit or miss deal for me, sometimes the wig I ordered was gorgeous and sometimes it looked like I was playing dress up in my Granny's wigs, lol!
hairsisters.com
besthairworld.com
These two...TDF, lol, no really, they have reasonably priced wigs that are of quality, I love, love, love my wigs ordered from these two sites.
stylingwigs.com
This site sells reasonable lace wigs, comfortable and easy on the wallet ($225) for human hair. This is my Cinderella wig, lol, I only wear it when I'm the "Belle of the Ball", which should be every day, but, I'm just a working stiff.

To Mothers of young girls with A, AA, AT or AU, a half wig normally fits a child's head or an adult with a tiny head, . Half wigs normally have combs sewn in, just remove them if you don't need them or if they irritate your scalp. My favorite brand, MODEL MODEL.

For weaves and a natural look, use human hair and get it sewn in, be sure to tell the hairdresser not to make it tight.

The Comfy Grip, cost $30, but it does not work, at least not for me, my wig came off all the time with the Comfy Grip...

For those that have AA-tack your wig down to your hair, this trick prevents slippage and keeps your wig in place.

I used to spend up to $100 dollars getting my hair weaved, I can purchase 5 wigs for that price, sometimes more, imagine the possibilities of hairdos.

Last but not least, don't let the race of the model wearing the wig sway you, wigs come in all colors, choose the color that suits you and "strut your stuff"

Okay, that's all I can think of for now, don't forget to add your advice and comments, I'm sure they'll be appreciated! Luv Yah!

Linda,
Thank you for all the information you've provided. I sure wish someone would have been around to give me this sort of advice when I first started out wearing wigs. I am sure your advice will be super helpful both to those just starting out and to those of us who've been doing this for what feels like forever. I know I'm going to check out some of those websites as I've never purchased hair online, but I figure you can get just about anything online...why not hair too.
Thanks again & all the best to everyone.

I wish I had some imput to share, but I can't stand the touching-me-ness of it all

LOL, Carmella, now that I've shaved my head, I can't stand wigs anymore either, but I do like to wear them every now and again to spice up my life.

Amanda, my best wigs were ordered online and they are quality purchases, I love them. Let me know how you make out.
Both of you stay Blessed!

I'll definitely check out the sites you've listed for wigs. I used to exclusively shop at Especiallyyours.com but they never saved my order history so I looked around and found wigwarehouse.com had a better selection. I only had to return one wig so far. The restocking fee is a killer though. I don't normally return wigs whether I like them or not, so it may not be as big a shock for you as it was for me.

The "comfy grip" is indeed a waste of money and is neither comfortable or grippy (is that a word?). I started wearing head bands under my wig last year. They work like a charm.

And thank you for the tip on smaller sized heads. Alopecia runs in my family and most of my relatives have small heads which makes buying a wig impossible. I wasn't aware that a half wig existed.

Great blog!

Thanks Tricia, great input, lol@grippy-it is now a word! I'll have to try the headband trick, I may try sewing one on the inside of my wigs, I normally sew satin ribbon along the inside edge to prevent my hair from rubbing out...
Half wigs are great and HairSisters has the best price on them so far, they are quality wigs sold in stores for up to $5o, but HairSisters has them at times for as low as $9.99 plus shipping handling, I love that price. I bought 13 wigs during their last sale and they are all in mint condition. Thanks again for posting!

Thanks Frank, just visited HenryMargu.com, the childrens wigs are cute, a bit unnatural looking and very thick for a child. I think they would be appropriate for some though, with my little peanut head, I could probably pull one off.

Here's another link for you - http://www.wigshop.com

I liked the comfy grip when I first bought it, but after awhile it started slipping and wouldn't stay in place. I think it may have gotten stretched out of shape and I just can't seem to fasten it tight enough now, so I gave up on it. Too bad, because it really seemed helpful those first couple of weeks or so.

OHhhhh I have to check out these websites you have mentioned for wigs... What is a comfy grip?
Comment by Linda on October 15, 2008 at 9:59am
Comfy Grip is a gel filled band that you put around your head to keep your wig from slipping, it closes with velcro. Mine was too big for my "peanut head" and it didn't keep my wig on like the ad promised. I was out $35 and stuck with a product that didn't work for me, the way I shop for wigs, that was 3 wigs...easily ;-)
