Well, I haven't posted a blog yet, so I thought I'd share a story. I went to a tattoo parlor with my roommate today to get a piercing. I had been there once before (about a year ago) and the guy recognized me, but then again, how hard is it to not remember a bald girl? Anyways, being curious, he said "So, you don't have any body hair?" I was like, "no," and then preceded to tell him about alopecia and what it was. Needless to say, he had never heard of it (not many have), but was definitely interested in it. In the conversation, he mentioned how cool it was that I didn't have hair and that he was jealous. When I told him that approximately 2% of the population is affected at some point in their life, he said "so there's still hope that I'll get it."
Over the past 5 years, I've become comfortable with being bald and enjoy it most of the time. I just never would have thought that someone would be jealous that I didn't have hair (with the exception that I don't have to shave. all my friends hate me for that! hehe). It's just nice to meet people who don't look at you and automatically assume you have cancer and take you for who you are and not what you look like. Anyways, just thought I'd share!

I remember once when I was younger I was just a teen-ager about 13years old and my friend had just started going out with this guy Chris.Being a bit of a tom boy I always had a easy time getting along with guys, needless to say at some point of the day when we were all hanging out she must have got jealous or something cause she said to Chris right in front of me,did you know Sarah is missing an eyebrow. He was immediately interested, so I explained to him about my Alopecia.Instead of him being all weirded out by it he asked if I would show him my miss eyebrow and I did, then he turned around to my friend and said sincerely "that's so cool, you should shave yours off."I always remembered that.I just wanted to share this story with you because your story reminded me of a time where having Alopecia was cool and accepted blindly.

Interesting post. I've been bald by choice for so many years that I often forget the color of my hair. As this blog states, being hairless has its advantages. Then again, I wonder what the guy you mentioned would have to say people who are dealing with scarring alopecia, for example. I reckon that someone being jealous of another baldness would depend on precisely why the alopecian is bald.

My wife is also bald and beautiful with au. She has known women who have full heads of hair who shave their heads bald for fashion reasons, like some women fashion models and lady singers do these days.
One of my wife's friends, a lady named Monique, has a full head of hair and shaves her head smooth because she likes how she looks bald and her husband likes her bald.
Like my wife, Monique dresses very feminine, wears makeup and earrings, and either wears a headscarf or her bald look.
At any rate, Monique has told my wife before that she envies that my wife is bald with au, because Monique wants to be bald, she gets tired of shaving her head every day.
She also told my wife that she wishes she had au, and that she has even considered getting her head hair removed with laser and electrolysis, so she could always wear the bald look, and then just wear wigs or headscarves when she felt like it.
