What a coincidence that the other day as I was combing my new wig, I was wondering what would happen if the contestants on Shear Genius had to cut and style wigs for alopecia and cancer patients and voila! This past Wednesday night on Shear Genius, eight women with alopecia were on the show, spreading awareness and having wigs styled for the episode's challenge.

Good for you, Bravo, for using this fabulously addicting reality show (I've been a fan since season one!) to provide an emotional look into the lives of alopecians. =)

I have had my wig from the show recut by a wig stylist to include bangs and thin it down. I'm also going to have it dyed to more of a brown color, which was my natural color. My choice of the red/blonde wig was an impulse to try something different, and I liked the way it looked during the filming. But, once I got it home, I decided more brown would be better. I'm glad you liked the episode. I felt a great sense of responsibility - representing other women with alopecia. I'm relieved that it turned out okay.

The wigs on the show were all human hair - which was tragic to see wasted as huge amounts of it ended up on the floor. I'm new to wigs and assume that it will be able to be dyed and will hold color just like original hair, except that the color won't grow out!
