I spent the last six days in SF. My husband grew up there and we had an ... alright time. I felt like we spent hours just driving around and trying to make other people happy. I didn't notice anyone with alopecia. I did notice that not a single person gave me a sideways look. The whole time I wished we were back in SLO, but his mother cried and then we ended up there. For a six day holiday it wasn't bad though really the only thing that sucked was his mom throwing a fit that the kids and I were there.
Honestly in all the time that I've lived my family has one time asked to see me seprately from my husband and this woman yelled, cried and demanded that he leave his family in SF (not our hometown) to spend time with her alone. -She has always hated me ... damn white skin and low income. Still the ONE time was my brother who was acting like a damn racist fool and I have not seen, spoken to, or heard/asked about since (May 2006).
CAR
P.S. Has anyone else though WtF? when they've visited SF lately. Seriously so many of the things I've loved before a gone or broken and the zoo is a JOKE!

San Francisco has seriously changed since I visited back in the 90s, although the nightlife is about the same. I guess it's like most old neighborhoods, when you leave and go back, you don't recognize the place. On MOTHER-IN-LAWS, some can be royal pains, especially when you marry their sons. My EX-husband is the only male with four sisters, anastatia, drusilla, cruella divine, and nastina, they hated me as much as his Mama-but it was all good. I hung in there until he really pissed me off, lol. I can't imagine a GrandMom not wanting to see her GrandBabies, they are soooooo precious, I'd rather see my GrandGirls than anybody in the world. But you hang in there, you are much stronger than I could have ever been, I could see me, gathering up my kids and bolting out the door with a few choice words.

Hey Car,

Too bad you didn't enjoy SF.
I'll agree with you that the SF Zoo is small potatoes but Grizley Gulch and the train are fun. Oh and the penguins are really cute too.

Carmella,
I'm so sorry you had to endure such behavior. It always amazes me how immature those are "mature" can behave. Once you pass I'd say the age of...what...teenager you should not be able to behave like that anymore. I commend you for sticking in there. I don't know how I would have reacted, but you seem to have handled it with gumption (strength or the ability to handle anything) Go you!
