Day 1 - May 8th, 2013 - Discovery...not exactly a "eureka!" moment

Day 1 -  May 8th, 2013 - Discovery...not exactly a "eureka!" moment

It was 6:45am, somewhere on Main Rd. in Chance Cove, NL. I was on my way home from work after a long 13hr night, full of formen and craft that are grown men but have no trouble acting like babies! haha!

[Sidetrack]They're a funny bunch though, and always bring me treats. I just wish they would treat me like an Engineer and not their personal secretary, "Print this! Do that! Bring up this pipe in the model"...Females in a male dominated environment, plus the lack of tools for these guys to use, equals I'm secretary with an Engineering degree (no offence to any Admin Assitants out there :-) just saying I studied engineering and I'm a Field Engineer but dont get treated like one as much as I'd like to and have to remind them daily that I have other things to do than just print out there drawings...)...but I know, I know this will eventually make me a stronger professional...help me overcome adversity...blablabla...

On my way home, I was undoing my ponytail and chit-chating with my boyfriend and then I felt a strage "valley-like" spot of hair. So I turned my head and asked... [OK, so before I continue, about 2 to 3 months ago, he had mentioned to me that there was a small spot on the back of my head without any hair. It was very small he told me, so I assured us both that it was probably my natural rosette.]..."Hey do you still see the spot you saw earlier?" He confirmed with a "Yes".

When we reached our driveway, I decided to get him to look at it closely by parting my hair in that area and asked him to take a picture with my iphone. I wanted to see what he saw! ...He was silent, almost too silent and then said, "Are you sure hun?"

THAT IS... NEVER ...A GOOD QUESTION!

"How big is it?", "What does it look like?"..."TAKE A PICTURE!"

He did.

And then I saw it...Complete and utter panic took over me! I'm a naturally tanned person, but I am sure, I looked like a ghost at that moment! As the information registered, all I could do was cry.

My next reaction: head for the internet.

I researched and researched and self-diagnosed it as most-likely Alopecia...What? It's most-likely Auto-immune!!?! No cure??!? Debatable causes!?!...No real answers or hope! I then looked for a dermatologist, hoping that he/she will tell me that it isnt AA and that I am obviously over-reacting. My appointment was set for May 10th, 2013 at the Alphaderm Clinic in St,John's.
