Hi Everyone!

When I first joined this group 6 months ago, at the peak of the "mess" that is alopecia, I promised myself and my friends here that as things got better, I wouldn't forget to keep posting updates and positive messages here. I remember ages ago looking in ernest for any story of regrowth, remission, etc. that would give me hope. Here's a brief one for the books...

  • 6 months ago, AA started with 3 spots
  • Over the course of 2-3 months, 3 spots became 15 of varying sizes
  • By the end of the 5th month, hair started growing back in many of the spots
  • Slowly, over the course of the 6th month (brings us to the present), the spots have pretty much filled in

I'm now just waiting for the hair to continue growing and thicken. While all that was going on , I had only 2 haircuts and primarily kept my hair rather long in order to cover up the areas. Well, today, I had my 3rd haircut and finally getting back to semi-stylish (at least IMHO). I've attached a few pics below.

When I shower, I still see hair in the lather, but at this point, I'm not sure if that's normal or not. I'm SURE that even before all this, I would have hair in the lather, but you know...I can't remember what "normal" was anymore. For now, it seems that there aren't any distinct spots forming, the old ones are growing back in slowly, and I finally look and feel a little more like "me" again.

Stay positive, things CAN get better.

Pics:

  • First Pic - the crown and the left side of my head (shown) was the WORST part that was hit by AA. The left side, near the top, had a HUGE vacant spot that has now filled in.
  • Second Pic - right side wasn't impacted too bad with exception of, again, near the crown. That's not an old spot you see there, just how the flash picked up on my scalp and the contrast of it and my black hair.
  • Last Pic - nothing special to say here other than....BOY AM I GLAD I DON'T HAVE MY ELVIS "DO" ANYMORE! :-)

John...I am so happy for you that everything is finally coming back in! That is great news! You definitely took control of your life...not the other way around with the alopecia controlling you! I am so proud of you for all you have accomplished the last few months! Keep up the good work!

Donna - thanks so much for all the encouragement. You've been such a friend throughout this whole ordeal. Hope all is going well with you too! How's the new gig going?

Lois - it's pretty fitting that you always sign your messages with "pax", because whether you know it or not, you've been a source of pax for me each step of the way. Yah, I hope the AA is behind the BOTH of us!

I'm hanging in there my friend. AA nearly broke me but I'm fighting back. I hate the fact that it changed me beyond recognition to myself but I'm slowly getting back to being ME!

Anyway, this is your moment of glory and you've been a rock to me and many others on AW. Enjoy sir, you're an inspiration to us all

Robert - AA will NEVER have us...hell no, can't give into this SOB of a condition, right??!?!?!? Thanks again buddy, I think the lesson learnt is that we're all here for each other when we each need it the most. P.S. hope you're not too hung over. hehehee

Heather - thanks so much! *clink clink* all around with the drinks. Speaking of drinks...Super Bowl!!!! =)

Aimee - thanks for the kind compliment! You just never know with alopecia, but that won't mean I'll take the good days for granted right?

John! This is SO awesome! I am beyond words with happiness for you. I know it has been a while since we talked, but I had freaked my self out to the point where I had to force myself to forget AA for a bit. Turns out, at least for now, I'm showing regrowth too. my hair is finally getting long enough to hide the few new spots, andf the old spots are filling in slowly also. I hope this is a positive turn for both of us! Chat soon!
